New Voyages Site Update?

I can only hope James has discovered a way to return the fun into the creation of Star Trek

In case you have not heard of this before, James Cawley and his team are preparing the sets for their own Star Trek convention. If you ever wanted to see and walk around our sets, yourself - this is the opportunity you have been waiting for. August 12-14, 2016 in Ticonderoga, New York 12883.

Cawley is teasing set completions on Facebook.

For the 'final episodes' or was the announcement jsut a flash in the pan?

The pics he's got on his personal page of the work on McCoy's lab and the briefing room screen are impressive. Didn't much care for his potshot at STC's engineering set, however.

I dunno if "fortunate" is the word. ;) It's not a good script. It's not even as good as "The Savage Empire".
That's subjective; and I don't know if this is true since I haven't read it. I'll substitute any synonym of the positive word I used where you've read or possess something I've longed for.

LOL, REALLY, what did he say?? I have a particular interest in this since I designed and built the STC engine room. I would appreciate someone PM'ing the comment to me.

Thanks

^ I looked through his posts and the only thing I saw him commenting about was his sets being the most accurate. I didn't see anything that I would characterize as a "potshot" but I could have missed something. I only saw his personal site where he would mix Star Trek stuff with his Elvis stuff.

People are often advising James to be very, very diplomatic when discussing our sets. Looking great and accurate is great; looking better than other similar productions seems to be an important value to him, although we often try to reinforce that it's not actually a competition. My sense is James' comments of others' sets are generally more descriptive than evaluative--for whatever defense that might be. Something like "Their transporter chamber is 10% too small," not "Their transporter room is shitty looking."

For what it's worth, here are his comments accompanying his Facebook post of our new Engineering Room set:

"All controls are precision laser cut acrylic, with working sliders and lights! Meticulous recreations of every wall 'Plant-on' from TOS, nothing here is made of Styrofoam, it is all plastic, wood and MDF. There are hundreds of hours of study and reproduction in this full sized recreation of The Original Engineering Set. No where else has this been done to this level of accuracy and finish!"

Of my friend, I can only say this: he might well have added: "The accuracy is yuuuge! My Engineering set is the best you've ever seen! There is no other set like mine--believe me! It's beautiful! Believe me!" ;)

@feek61 the specific callout to nothing being styrofoam was what I was referring to.

Thanks for posting that, Greg. I'm very impressed by all the work you guys have done with the P2/NV sets just as much as I am with STC's sets. I'm just getting a little exasperated with that sense of competition that comes around occasionally, like you noticed as well. Everyone, including James, should celebrate these sets being recreated in such minute detail, without qualifying it by comparing it to another production's. Maybe I'm reading a bit too much into it, but it just jumped out at me.

I would like to say, your work on STC is extraordinary and I think the engine room you designed and helped constructed is by far the most eye popping set I couldn't have imagined being done. I think it's as accurate to Star Trek or may I be so bold to say I think it looks better than what Desilu had done. It's great work, I salute you, Sir.

I would love to see the designs you've drawn someday.

James put a lot of effort into making the best sets around, believes he succeeded, and has great pride in the work and its precision. There's no slight there. And, honestly, I can't think of any fan shows that don't have a certain healthy sense of competition with their nearest peers. I know I'm always trying to catch Excelsior up to Outpost on Outpost's strengths, and I'm sure Tony Raymond is doing the same with Excelsior's strengths. Doesn't stop us being pals!

I think the fact we are litigating such a positive comment and trying to extract drama from it explains a lot about why James doesn't find this so fun anymore.

I love STC, I love STP2, please let's drop this line of discussion and get back to begging Greg to finish "Bread and Savagery."

Folks, my comment about styrofoam, is not intended as a slight to Feek or anyone. It is a criticism of the use of that particular kind of material. There is no animosity intended, no disparaging remarks, or infighting here and I really wish folks would not jump to those kinds of conclusions. I am impressed with Feek's work and speed. Do I agree with every choice made, no of course not and I am sure he does not agree with all of mine, That does not mean we can't be friends and offer words of constructive criticism to each other. Builder's of anything can only get better, when they listen and compare their respective accomplishments with each other. I will say for the record and for the last time, I am not in competition nor fighting with anyone at STC, and I do admire Feek and his accomplishments!
Please folks, try not to read negativity into online typed words, There is too much negativity in this community and world as it is ! There is much to celebrate, it is high time we all did!

I think it is only natural to think that our own creation is the best so I certainly understand James feeling the way he does; I feel the same about my own because I understand the uncounted hours and tribulations in making these things a reality. I didn't mean for this to become a discussion here which is why I asked someone to PM me the comment so that I could address any concerns directly with James (which is what I did; everything is cool). In the end it's really about having fun; it is not a competition and I take these comments with a grain of salt (but I am a curious fellow, lol). I certainly appreciate the effort put into all of these productions which is quite the commitment to say the least.

Bravo, Gentlemen!:cool::cool:

Can't wait to see new sets from anyones' productions, especially TOS era. Hard work to be admired and appreciated by us all.

I apologize for taking your comments incorrectly, James. Thanks for taking the time to pen a response.
