DC Comics: Rebirth

That said, certainly the inhabitants of the DCU will notice this change in appearance too. Lana saw the difference right away there in the tomb, once Older Supes had stepped out of the shadows and into the light. Will Clark Kent suddenly age 10 years? I'm intrigued.

I just don't see Clark and Lois "White" stepping into the shoes of their New 52 counterparts. Not just because of their age, but because Lois Lane is still working at the Daily Planet. I'm curious if they'll make use of this to do something different with the whole secret identity angle.

His finale with the 5th Dimension imps and the villain attacking Superman across time, space and from different dimensions, soured my reread.
Same here. I was ok with his stuff in the beginning, but I hated that last arc. I couldn't wait for it to be done.

I wasn't really a fan of the Perez run on Superman either.

I've never been a trade guy. Are they much cheaper?
Actually, I just did some math, and the individual issues of Batman are actually cheaper than the latest collected version, Vol. 8: Superheavy. I think some do end up cheaper though.
I mainly just like them because they're more convenient.

Typically yes.
Especially if you get them the week of release but even if not they do tend to be cheaper from the big online TPB/HC dealers like InStockTrades.com or CheapGraphicNovels.com. Where at both sites a large selection of Marvel & DC books are 50% off the MSRP, Other publishers vary from 35-42% off and the Marvel/DC material even after the initial week of release tend to stay at that 42% MSRP.
Either site tends to be better than Amazon which rarely goes above 30% on a regular basis, even when they do their shipping methodology is much worse and you're more likely to get a damaged book. IST has phenomenal shipping and CGN is pretty solid as well, especially on hardcovers.

I don't have a need to use it but I've seen European fans talk about a site called SpeedyHen that is somewhat similar for them.

Besides that, it was a good comic. I'll try out the series that comes from it (and I haven't read a GL book since that stupid Relic stuff started). The Batman: Rebirth book was also good, although they did a poor job as a jumping on point for new readers by not giving even a dialog box for Lark's backstory in the comic. I had no idea he was some character from a bunch of New 52 comics I hadn't read. Since they don't refer to him by his civilian name in the comic, I had assumed he was Batwing getting a new identity before I looked him up online
Duke is referred to by name on page 12.

I don't think he's Lark, even if both costumes have yellow in them. For one there's a big black bat on his chest and the design is different.A lot of Snyder's plans for Duke, Harper and Cullen never seemed to pan out.

I must have missed the name drop, but it wouldn't have helped me know who he is, anyway. I'm pretty sure they did call him Lark, though. The DC Wiki and Comicvine.com agree that he's Lark.

I think Lark only shows up as part of a possible future or maybe some sort of hallucination. In the present, Duke Thomas is one of the Robins in the We Are Robin series. That's the only superhero role he's had.

Yeah, Lark only showed up in places besides the main timeline until now. I'm pretty sure this is supposed to introduce the character into the comic universe's "present". He wasn't Lark until he becomes Lark in Batman: Rebirth #1. The other Lark had a different costume because it was years out (in Future's End), and this is the first costume. Duke Thomas and Future's End Lark have the same color scheme, they say Duke Thomas isn't going to be called "Robin" in the book, and Future's End Lark looks like he could easily be Duke thomas. It would make absolutely no sense if Thomas was called anything but Lark at this point.

I just got DC Universe: Rebirth #1 in the mail yesterday. I really liked it! Yes, I knew all the surprises already but it was still really good. I loved that the original Wally West was brought back. I also really liked how Geoff Johns used Wally as a symbol of hope, optimism, and reconstruction and Doctor Manhattan a symbol of cynicism, deconstruction, and also a representation of misguided creators and TPTB (including himself) who sought to make comics darker and edgier. It was quite refreshing to read a mea culpa writ large from someone who played a part in bringing DC Comics to where it is today. As I read Rebirth and articles about it, I've come to realize Convergence was also meant as a mea culpa (though less well-written). The whole thing of Brainiac being a "hologram of the DCU" (in Jeff King's words) which went through the Flashpoint and became this monstrous "god"-being that eventually wanted to revert back to his old self now seems very much like DC editorial and management trying to say "We messed up".

I really dig Mr. John's vision so far. It has tons of potential. I just hope Mr. Johns doesn't get too caught up with his new position to be able to keep a firm hand on things because this train he's got going can easily go off the tracks.

Yeah, I like it so far.

Is that just some kind of fan-created image, or is it actual promotional material from DC?

It's actually from the 1988 crossover "Invasion", which I recently read, and I found it kinda fitting. Like, the heroes being cured from the dark influence?! Yeah, I know, this dark influence (apparently Dr. Manhattan) has not yet been dealt with, and probably won't be for another two years, but it's a huge step in the right direction, as far as I'm concerned.

The Dominators dropped a "genebomb" that removed almost everyone's super powers. In the final issue, Earth's heroes had to fight the Dominion Alliance powerless.

There was still at least seven Green Lanterns on Earth at the time.

Idiots.

The bomb actually made the powers of heroes who had the metagene go wild. Green Flame became Fire due to this genebomb.

And this was post the destruction of the GLC, so only Hal, John, and Guy had rings.

I've been looking at the solicitations for July and August. I noticed that some comics like Dr. Fate, Earth 2 and the Teen Titans are not restarting (Teen Titans might restart in October since its Rebirth issue is in September), so are these books going to continue for a while or are they being cancelled after August?

Dr. Fate and Earth 2 are definitely continuing. Teen Titans is most likely just wrapping up, then re-launching with Rebirth.

That's interesting--I wonder if there will be an Earth 2: Rebirth coming up in the following months? Has anybody been following Earth 2? I bought the first few issues and then stopped?

Earth 2 started out strong then ,not too long after James Robinson left the book ,it got really bad. It's recently been on the upswing with Dan Abnett taking over the writing. I thought it was getting a new #1 but not a Rebirth issue but I haven't heard anything recently.

i've been reading it from the beginning. i felt that after the Val Zod arc ended the book really went off the rails. and yeah, when Abnett took over things improved.
