I love Enterprise.

As a preference, I would rather that 'they' would've let the Vulcanians alone and not tried to paint them differently than how Leonard Nimoy had tried to present them. But that's just me. It's not enough to make me feel negative about the show, at all, and it certainly provided opportunities for a different kind of drama in STAR TREK. For example: T'Pau portrayed as this "Joan of Arc" type. Still in all, it didn't do anything for me, seeing them portrayed in this light. I felt like it was just an excuse to get away from the whole "logical" stereotype, which was apparently problematic for writing stories based around them. Having said that, I'm glad that -ENTERPRISE- was - initially - a little less concerned with tradition.

Outstanding, sir! Thanks, a lot.
(Actually, it's ma'am.)

TATV was just "an undigested bit of beef, a blot of mustard, a crumb of cheese, a fragment of underdone potato" that didn't rest well with me.

This is the greatest smackdown of TATV that ever lived. Thank you. And Mr. Dickens too. :techman:

I agree with those who think "Terra Prime" is a fitting close for the series. It shows everyone off well. Paxton is a fabulous villain, not like those random plot-device aliens of TATV. Archer has a great speech, which makes up for 1) the gazelle thing, and 2) the noticeable lack of great speech in TATV after all that buildup. And the scene with Trip and T'Pol at the end is so beautiful, and hopeful. This is Star Trek, and the Enterprise I loved. Not that dopey waste of an hour that came after.

My understanding, and correct me where I'm wrong, is that there was an intended reveal of T'Pol being half Romulan (had the series continued). If so, I'm not so sure that they weren't concerned with tradition, but were looking to highlight the Romulan half as the reason for T'Pol being less "logical".

I think they did the Vulcans well. I think that's exactly what they would have been like pre TOS.

I think that's exactly how they would have evolved. Most people who didn't like that portrayal forget that societies don't stay the same over time. Since TOS shows T'Pau (among others) as racist towards humans, it shouldn't be surprising that this was exaggerated in ENT. I never understood why this was controversial. The criticisms of Vulcans reminds me of criticisms towards the LOTR movie's version of Denethor. They say he was a completely different character than the one in the book. Well, as someone who watched the movies first, I found that the movies played up the more crazy, unsavory aspects. But it wasn't anything not in the books. In other words, not completely different.

I've heard about that, also. And it's fairly obvious that T'Pol & Trip's romance was based heavily on the novelisation STAR TREK III, where it applied to the Lieutenant Saavik and David Marcus characters. Saavik was half Romulan and there is a deleted scene from STAR TREK II which confirms this. Also, there are marked similarities between T'Pol's attitudes towards her relationship and how the novelized Saavik viewed hers. I believe the author was Vonde McIntyre, that might not even be her name. I read the book a few years ago and recognised the latter -ENTERPRISE- connection.

There I said it.

I am one of the very few that love Enterprise. I saw it on TV all those years ago but didn't follow it much, but I did like what I saw and ended up buying every season on DVD.

Love watching it, and have favourite episodes and I wish they had continued it, but that last episode WAS a total stinker.

Yeah but you also like Andromeda :p

I'll defend to my dying breath the original Andromeda, right until the moment a discount Xena Warrior Princess knockoff replaced Trance Gemini, and series developer/head writer Robert Hewitt Wolfe (of the excellent DS9) was unceremoniously shown the door.

Enterprise was a cool show too.

But that 2nd Trance was the same character. Only she looked a lot more sexy and less cute then she did before. I liked purple Trance more though.

Except she had a completely different personality. Or I should say, she did not have Trance's personality anymore, because I don't think she ever did develop one of her own. Not that I think this needs to become a thread about Andromeda.

Never found Gold-Not-Trance sexy either. And whoever forced Lexa Doig to wear that ghastly blue (and later red) wig needs to be jailed for crimes against humanity. We all suffer when Lexa Doig looks anything less than terrific.

Sorry. I said I was done doing that, didn't I?

Enterprise is neat!

So what?

Season 1 to 4 of Andromeda were tolerable...

Season 1 was the best.

And the Andromeda Ascendant could kick Enterprises butt.

I was just joking. I think it's cool you liked it. I tried getting into it but just couldn't. I liked the space-ship design though, looked great.

No probs.

I love the Andromeda, sure she looks like a pretzel but those lines and curves. She's a lovely ship.

I'd love to see a firefight with her and the refit Enterprise A, with TOS movie Kirk in command

Oh no that is perfectly fine. I don't mind that others have their own opinions on this. Yeah the gold trance and purple one did have different personalities, and I really liked purple Trance. But it did become obvious her innocent like persona was somewhat of a cover for her.

Back to Enterprise ...

I liked how we got to know the Andorians better in Enterprise, and Shran was an excellent character.

I also liked why the TOS ass Klingons differed in appearance from how they looked later.

Oh for sure, but the fans reacted when those Klingons appeared. Many brains went into meltdown at "no ridges"

Greetings, Enterprise lovers! I thought I'd bump this thread with this interesting/amusing examination of the best darn ship in Starfleet:

Haha they recycle everything.

I think they did the Vulcans well. I think that's exactly what they would have been like pre TOS.
I think Abrahms even touched on this in the first film with Spock being bullied as a child for his human mother and later facing discrimination as an adult by people who would be T'Pol's peers. Spock is only one or two generations removed from ENT, and it makes sense that there's some of the lingering prejudice still there.
