I will never comment on the authenticity of a person's "fandom" - I think there are far too many litmus tests for "true" fans out there as it is.
^^^ I know, right?!! Totally :cool:
I can comment that Alec has not added anything to the fan community with actions and public statements. He may or may not be a Star Trek fan, but he is not a positive influence on the Trek fan community.
:sigh: I know, right. :sigh:

If Alec had kept his mouth shut, he likely would not have to been subject to the indignity of watching literally everyone turn against him.

Everyone except Reese and RMB........They'll go down with the ship.......and be thinking "Hey-Where did Alec go?" as she slips under the cold, dark, surface........arrrrrrrrrrrrggggg matey.

Too many people at Collider Video are in the bag for Axanar.

There's a weekly show on there called Collider Heroes hosted by documentary director John Schnepp. One of his permanent co-hosts is Robert Meyer Burnett. On the last show Schnepp crowed big about the JJ announcement and acted like everything was a done deal, and other frequent co-host Mark Ellis acted like the lawsuit was about CBS and Paramount mistreating fans. Mainly, for Schnepp it's more about his friend getting to direct something than any love for Peters and company, but still they've planted their flag in the Axanar camp.
I dont watch the Heroes show as rule, and didnt see this, but Collider Heroes is not noticed by the general public, but certainly alot of entertainment websites reported on Axanar after JJ Abrahams comments, which to me is not a surprise, he is JJ Abrahams after all, the CBS vs Paramount thing is confusing, and will be missed by the general public, never mind the reason the law suit was filed in the first, reporting of that is no where.

There are alot of issues to be reported, which makes it hard for even someone like Collider to get it right, but right now, its all positive publicity Axanar, a fanfilm that has not produced a whole lot yet, sure its a nice idea, but im not sure it deserves it.

This does not even take into account the effect its had on other fan films, and future of this sub-genre.

I just popped into "Who Monitors the Axamonitor" page and notice that ALL reader comments to every single post have been deleted. So much for a truthful open dialog.
It wouldn't matter anyway. Practically every article linked on that page is factually inaccurate, or so badly written it's not worth the trouble to try and read.

What troubles me about it is that in the case of Collider I feel it's more like willful ignorance than just too much info to get everything right. Collider video is neither run by nor hosted by people who know nothing about how TV shows and movies are made. Most of them, including Schnepp, have worked for networks and studios before.

This is what I find so strange about Schnepp's cheerleading for Axanar, because he should know better. He shouldn't be duped by the fact that JJ Abrams said something about a lawsuit he's not a party to, and again, his friend wants to direct this and that's all he seems to care about.

Isn't he crowdfunding his own project right now? Maybe he's gonna shoot at Ares Studio/Warehouse/Self Storage...........
obviously he has done his Superman Lives thing, I dont know if he has anything else in the pipeline, I expect he does, even if its not announced.

I agree, the Colider crew do come across as genuine fans and I believe they are, it is why I liked that they mentioned Continues in the video, which they dont have to do. Schnepp has been honest about stuff in the past, so yes it does surprise me that Collider is putting the same gloss on this story that other news sites are.

Ahem. Sorry to be a grammar fascist, but I keep seeing the following homophone confusion here: it's "piqued" my interest, not "peaked" or "peeked".

peak = highest point
peek = to look
pique = stimulate interest or curiosity

We now return to our scheduled AP snark in progress. :D

After learning all of this new information you have all been so helpful with, thinking back on prelude to Axanar, I find one part particularly ironic. The speech about the federations dream, and losing what they have built out weighing the cost of losing to the klingons and that be the federations greatest fear. I kind of feel that the dream of what we've created is a wonderful fan community, including all the fan productions. Our greatest fear is now losing those productions and damaging our community. Over that, we fear no lawsuit.

Now you're getting into the spirit of Axanar-management observation: the project that is its own anathema, AND is compulsively determined to prove it again and again.

Here's another: Axanar got umpty-billion donors by telling them "you can support a project that is independent of the studios, so you can have "true" Trek, and its not illegal or anything!". Axanar later confronts the studios by saying "the fans have spoken, you have to let the project be independent!".

He is crowdfunding a new project. It's supposed to be about the comics industry, specifically about how the new trend in comic book movies has affected business in comic book stores. He's talked about it on heroes in past episodes but not lately.

I'd bet my truck that their is going to be a feature length documentary about this someday, and it will be a heart of darkness situation where the documentary is better then the movie would have been. After all, this is basically the OJ Simpson trial for nerds. It would have a good narrative structure, since the scales continuously tip him into more and more of villain territory as it progresses, and it's wild enough that I think even non trekkies would enjoy the ride.

"The Death of Axanar Lives"? Directed by John Schnepp?

I hope this is readable. I noodled around in InDesign (a program I have to keep sharp in for school stuff anyway) to put this together.
