NEW Wand Company TOS Communicator Demonstration Video

Thanks for the video hot link. I've been curious about this unit for some time. (I have the phaser remote and it is a BEAUT!) So, it DOES have the spinning moire effect. I wondered if they were going to add that detail given it's supposed to be a functional BlueTooth component. I feared the motor might interfere with the microphone. But I guess the Wand Company solved that potential issue.

Must cost a pretty penny for that item. Looks good, I hope there'll be more videos to show what this thing can do along with another device.

List price was originally planned for 150 dollars, same as the phaser remote. Hopefully Wand has not raised it.

I got to play with the prototype at last year's San Diego Comic Con. It was quite well done. I have the Wand Phaser remote, which is pretty amazing as just a prop replica.

Selling an audio device and they couldn't get a mic closer to the speaker? It seems really impromptu, too, for someone trying to get you to part with $150.

You know it's intended to replicate the original design, right? So the microphone goes where it goes, not closer to the speaker.

Edit: If by the speaker you meant the guy, then okay.

It looks very well made. What does it communicate with? Would you use it to talk to someone on their bluetooth phone? If so, you'd need to be in range of the phone, and isn't that range around 30 meters or so?

As long as your phone is on you (back pocket or wherever) you can talk to anyone on the planet who also has a cellphone. :)
Bluetooth is just an extension of your phone like a set of fancy headphones with a mic attached. This fancy set of headphones happens to be an exact replica of a Star Trek communicator.

I'm curious about why there was no sound (communicator chirp)

Yes, I meant the man in the video with his shirt tucked in. It just seems kinda weirdly amateurish for what I assume to be a reputable company.

Thanks for patiently explaining what should have been obvious to me. For some reason, I was imagining it being used like a "real" communicator - as a standalone device to talk to people using other devices. I completely forgot that it can function like a headset w/ my own phone.

No worries bro :)

Does anyone know why it didn't "chirp" when opened? I pre-ordered this over 6 months ago, have suffered through delay after delay with eager anticipation -- but if it doesn't "chirp" I'm going to cancel right now!

It better have different communications channels, be able to contact a ship in orbit, use sonic frequencies to cause a landslide, be equipped with a transtator, and velcro to my pants or no deal.

The Wand communicators are out; I just received mine from startrek.com. Mine's charging right now, so I haven't tried the bluetooth functionality yet. But as a prop replica, it's very cool and is definitely the most authentic licensed communicator out there.

Got mine the other day, and I'm lovin' it. Very nicely constructed. I've had several conversations with Spock, Sulu, McCoy, Uhura, and Scotty already. :)

Picked up the phaser too, so all I need now is a tricorder and I'm set.
