The Shore Leave convention just posted the following:

"Author guest, Kirsten Beyer, has to cancel her attendance at ShoreLeave38‬ for an admittedly very cool reason. Kirsten is one of the writers for the new Star Trek series. Her work load and commitment to the new series make it impossible to attend Shore Leave this year. She is looking forward to coming back to Shore Leave next year to share the excitement of her new job. Shore Leave extends congratulations to Kirsten for this amazing achievement and opportunity."

How freaking cool is that?!? Congratulations, Kirsten, on this truly exciting opportunity! Very excited that such a talented writer will be lending her skill and experience to the new show! Mad props, you deserve it!!!

Now that's a good reason to buy CBS' weird streaming service.

So, let's recap. I'm going to include scoops from Devin Faraci at BirthMoviesDeath due to his studio sources being right about 75% of the time.

1) Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Hannibal) is the showrunner.

2) Nicholas Meyer (The Wrath of Khan, The Voyage Home, The Undiscovered Country) isn't just a consulting producer. He's a freakin' member of the writing staff too!

3) The Series will be heavily inspired by The Undiscovered Country according to Meyer.

4) It will take place in the Prime universe according to Faraci's sources.

5) It will be heavily serialized and NOT set on an Enterprise according to Faraci's sources.

6) It will be a Fargo-stlye seasonal anthology series according to Faraci's sources. Each season will be a standalone miniseries featuring a different crew of a different ship/space station/etc. during a different time period.

7) The first season will take place shortly after The Undiscovered Country according to Faraci's sources.

8) Kirsten Beyer (Voyager: "Season 8") is also a member of the writing staff.

Every time a new piece of information about this show is revealed I don't think I can get anymore excited. Then the next new piece of info comes along and proves me wrong.

By the way, I love how Fuller seems to be recruiting talented writers from all the corners of Trek. I wonder if there are any other Trek movie/TV/tie-in legends in the mix.

Interesting. She's the first member of the writing staff I've heard of who isn't directly associated to Kurtzman or Fuller through their previous shows, save for the highly publicized Nicholas Meyer.

That is awesome. When the new series was announced, I was on the fence about it because I am a slightly pessimistic. But now after these news I am anticipating the new series. Congratulations Kirsten, I hope you'll have fun writing for the new series. It will be great that the world of television will see why you are called Kirsten "MFing" Beyer. :)

Congrats to Ms. Beyer for her new writing opportunity, and much success, though may I also say without seeming anxious - hope she can still without getting too stressed finish writing the next Voyager novel by next year's end. Anyway, thank you and good luck from an avid reader.

I can't help but agree !

Kirsten actually got me to like Voyger, something the show couldn't do...

This is fantastic news. A bit unexpected, but more than welcome. Can't wait to see what is going to happen with this series.

While I'm very excited for Kirsten, I've been firmly in the camp all along that I would rather keep getting the amazing quality of Pocket Books novels that we've been getting the last 15 years than a new Prime Universe show which disrupts that. This is another indication that the Litverse won't be the same after too much longer.

Interesting times to say the least.

The Voyager Books are a few years behind the Prime Universe books...and the adventures of the Full Circle Fleet are unrelated to what goes on in the Alpha Quadrant. There is a lot of ground that could still be covered there before they 'catch up'.

I don't mind if they hand the books over...I just want them handed over to a good quality writer. Would be nice if Kristen could nominate a successor if it comes to that. ;)

I have mixed feelings about this. I am so glad that there is a woman in the writer's room and extra glad that it is someone of Kristin's quality.

Having said that...what happens to the Voyager books? Will she be able to keep up? Will they be handed off to someone else?
The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few !

Anyhow, major litverse retcon incoming...
