DC Comics: Rebirth

His tiny flaccid penis left me feeling less motivated and desperate as a boy to grow something unmanageable in my trousers.

Well played, DC. Well played. My DC days are well behind me (we're talkin' Byrne's Superman, Perez' Wonder Woman, Giffen/DeMatties JLA/JLE and the events of the era) but this has gotten my interest. It's been a couple of days since the Dr. Manhattan revelation, and I've been constantly thinking of it. I broke down today and bought "Rebirth". Very good. Color me intrigued. I will be keeping an eye and an ear out for the issues that further the Dr. Manhattan story.

As for the other surviving Watchmen characters, I'm of two minds. As for Dr. Manhattan, I am surprisingly cool with it. Especially as seeing that the Watchmen world has been incorporated into the current DC multiverse (something I learned in this thread).

As for other surviving characters, seeing as Watchmen is very definitively set in 1985, it would be a stretch to just pick up with them where they left off. The passage of 30 years would have to be depicted. I would like to see how the Watchmen world is doing 30 years down the line. I would love to see a third (or even fourth) generation Night-Owl, or a Rorshack cult cleaning up the streets.

I grew up on DC, but haven't really read any of the mainstream DC universe since the mid to late 1980's.

I've just read Rebirth, some Wiki entries and the Lois & Clark miniseries in an effort to catch up. I'm struggling a little. DC sure do like a Crisis don't they ?

Taking it that I'm not about to plough through the entire Flashpoint/New 52 run, what should I read, or can you guys catch me up on the vital points ?

Rorschach Lives !

Just follow the writers and artists you like, you know who they are, they muddled through the best that they could.

None of it matters anymore. :(

Reading the first few pages of Rebirth, I couldn't help but notice how similar it was the final episode of the Flash on TV that aired only days ago.

Most of the key elements are actually explained in the story. From there, I would suggest reading what you want. Look some information up on wikipedia and comixolgy and then read what you think is interesting. For my part, I enjoyed Green Lantern Rebirth the most. Infinite Crisis is pretty mediocre, although I did like the Legion issues that were related.

And comic book continuity in general means very little to me, I personally think they should have completely rebooted and told the nay sayers "theres the door".
The "naysayers" caught the attention of the shareholders apparently once monthly sales dropped enough to affect their market shares precipitous drop. Naysayers took to the door and now with Rebirth DC is essentially saying,"no hard feelings, we don't know what came over us, let's try this again".

i've said this before, but i think DC should have waited till Johns finished his Green Lantern run and Morrison finished his Batman run. then just reboot everything.

Would it be a stretch, though? Dr. Manhattan doesn't perceive or exist in linear time. He could have done all this a minute after he was created. Or 1000 years later.

When did that happen? Did I miss something?

Before Watchmen (2012)?

Has the 'Rebirth' thing being happening in some titles already ? I thought the special was the start of it.

I'm going to read Before Watchmen (sorry Alan) just because, not that I think it will affect Rebirth at all.

Green Lantern Rebirth was over ten years ago when Geoff Johns restablished that Hal Jordan was not a drunk driving, child molesteror who murdered the Green Lantern Corps and then destroyed the universe. It wasn't Jordan's fault, there was an alien inside his soul making him act naughty, so forgive him for frakks sake.

Rebirth is what happened after they "fired" Kyle Rayner for having no personality.

Ah, nothing I need to worry about then. I'll read the new issues as they happen and may check out a few 'past events' as they are referenced.

I'm 30 years adrift continuity wise - I may well ask the occasional dumb question here. I understand there's other coloured lanterns thesedays...
