CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

That's okay. It has a lot of historical context in the United States that's still deeply disturbing. That's why I misinterpreted the intention of your post (it reminded me of earlier in the thread when people were wrongly comparing Axanar's team to Nazi Germany). But now harm done, and happy to move on. :)
Thanks. I usually try to avoid these sort of verbal faux pas, but every now and again a poor choice of phrase catches me out. I'm familiar enough with American history that I probably should have considered it might not come across well, so definitely my bad. :)

Hence his use of it, which I now understand. However, for many Americans, it immediately evokes the grotesque murder of Black people.
Kangaroo court, Mob rule are other terms. William Lynch set up his own self-constituted judicial tribunal in Virginia (1835) from which the phase Lynch mob, lynching became coined and often resulted in hangings or floggings.

Even within our own borders, we don't always know how other people identify with a word. And anyway, I know Nick's a great guy, so I shouldn't have assumed the worst. We're all good here!

This attempt by LFIM to rally the other fan productions around him was doomed from the beginning. He's thrown too many of these folks under the bus trying to save his own skin.

Ultimately I think he overestimates his charisma, and his vast aspirations of becoming a legend in his own time are quickly turning out to be half-vast.

Perhaps you could float a thought that if a project makes it through the review process one might presume they would face, then the studios might consider allowing on a case by case basis crowdfunding up to a certain level, within explicit guidelines such as indicating they are sanctioned, that they follow guidelines about what the money is spent on, auditing, performance (say finish within 6 months or close down and refund), etc?

I imagine this might be seen as a burden on the studios, but it would move the crowdfunding issue to *after* the screening.

Sitting around, waiting for a studio to complete a review process seems to me like it would be the equivalent of waiting for Godot. They would have every incentive to let such proposals die of old age. Besides who in any corporation would want that job?

ETA in re Dennis's post of the alleged exchange between AP and whomever...it seems Nick isn't the only one who feels that CP will do as it sees fit without seriously considering (or considering at all) the wishes, wants, aspirations, dreams, etc of the fan film makers.

The only book the two of them wrote: Inside Star Trek. In short, they dispute the claimed volume of mail received and postulate that it was color TV giant RCA which influenced NBC to keep the show on the air for a 3rd season due to how well the show did with color TV households.

I should point out that Solow's memory of the show's performance in color television households is somewhat wrong, although I do find his claims about the volume of mail received to be quite plausible. The more and more I read about other letter-writing campaigns or television-motivated mailings (e.g. all the people who wrote in to congratulate Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz on the birth of their son in 1952), the more the "over one million" letter figure seems completely ludicrous.

so Alec has told news outlets that the people named in that hubcap blog are on his side etc etc so a post in the cbs group says.

I am gonna dig a little deeper and see whats been said and tom whom, But if this is true then erm yeah...

Edit:
Poster wont say anymore,

make of it what you will but if this has merit then the people named might want to pro actively do something otherwise regardless if you took part looks like a certain person is claiming you took part etc. :-(

According to Star Trek: Phoenix's Twitter guidelines have been rejected and there will be official news Tuesday.

AP leading the effort wasn't a great idea

I've seen the Phoenix twitter make more than a few odd claims like that, like Beyond being delayed in the US until the day of the 50th anniversary, so I'd take it with a grain of salt unless they've got a good source they're linking to for that.
