I'm curious about this episode, and will be watching it when I can this weekend.
The trailer/teaser left me feeling underwhelmed though, with the puzzling Kirk/Scott banter, and the weirdly almost-magical hull breach/breaches...
They do have a new director this time out, and I'm curious to see what he comes up with (though my favorite is still Chris White from Lolani.
And I hope Doug Drexler actually manages to pull out an FX shot or two that'll wow me, because apart from that awesome ringed-planet shot from their reworked opening title sequence a couple episodes ago, I get the feeling the fx department has been coasting recently.
I know I can count on Matt Bucy for solid cinematography, regardless...

The claim is the goal for the series is to finish the 5 year mission. From what I've seen, STC is doing this at a turtle pace. Production design: outstanding. Storylines: Feh! Fx: Nothing to chat about. Performances: It is what it is. STC will never be Star Trek in my opinion, but it's bearable. There's too many of these TNG language tics which continue to draw attention to itself for it to ever be considered an extension to Star Trek from 1969.

Vic said the intention is to do 13 episodes and call an end to it. I'm not sure what criticizing the storylines and effects has to do with them being able to finish the mission? For me, the TNG stuff doesn't detract from the whole and I'm able to be happy with it being an unofficial 4th/5th season.

If this actually were a final season done back in the day they wouldn't have any thought of working toward a closure that points to a future film. None of that would have been known. They would simply have continued with standalone episodes.

I'm thinking STC is thinking of staying that course and ending with something that sort of sets up for the intervening years between the end of the 5-year mission and where things stand at the beginning of TMP. It really can't be too speicific because they wouldn't have had that kind of foreknowledge.

I don't know where it's going, and the storylines has everything to do with my criticisms. As for Vic, I think it's a noble exercise for a production, and having a cast and crew committed to complete these fan-project ventures. For me, it's a fan-film and not connected to what I know as Star Trek from the 1960's.

I like STC, but from the beginning I have said that if you want to pretend like it's still 1969 then you simply have to avoid any references to post TOS productions and you should also refrain from using terms, phrases and language that sound too contemporary of today.

You also have to shed yourself of some of today's perspectives or some of your stories won't ring true. This includes trying to "fix" characters to make them more in line with current sensibilities. That isn't to say you cannot tweak some things to add elements that TOS could have and should have done initially, but it should be in context of how it could have been done back in the day.

These are things I think all fan productions are challenged with. I think it can sometimes be more apparent with something like STC because in so many other aspects they do feel much like the original source materiel.

Thank God you are in the minority. I have watched EP6 four times now. The last time with some other family members. They enjoyed it and I enjoyed it again. I can honesty say there are some of TOS I have not watched four times.

It's as close as we are ever going to get. Considering they are all unpaid volunteers, They deserve every clap and pat on the back they get when it premiers this weekend.

I said it was a challenge to faithfully recreate a 1960s period sensibility. The closest I've seen it done is Mad Men and even there something contemporary occasionally creeped in.

Re: Ep. 6. There are some phrases and terminology that stick out as not being of the era. Also Gigi Edgely's hair style struck me as somewhat too flyaway to look of the period. I could be wrong on that and it's a minor thing, but it stuck out to me.

Anyway a few more days and we can start talking about this episode more openly and more folks can start voting.

Wonder if we should start a new, spoiler-rich discussion thread after the release.
I was going over the review I wrote that I shared with you in conversation. There really isn't that much truly spoilerish in it, but I'll still hold off from posting it here until this weekend. So I don't think we need another thread covering the same territory. In hindsight I should have held off starting this thread, but seeing the episode early made me eager to discuss it on some level even if not in detail.

I agree in general, it is little things like this that detract and remind me it's not 1970.... I may have said this on a NV thread, but the body language also stand out to me- if you watch the DS9 Tribbles episode, there are few extras that just plod through the corridor.

But I do appreciate the work they all do and I will watch it, since it has Gigi in it I might get the missus to watch it with me since we both loved Farscape

Why not? No one reads the rules about not replicating current threads and does it anyway. Read a line from a topic BASED ON THE SAME THREAD and wham! Here comes another identical thread about the same topic. ??? That bullsh*t blows my mind.

The minority of what? the minority of ''that one dude who's so mean he can't see STC like the rest of us with rose-coloured glasses and sing Kumbaya!!''? How many times do I have to repeat that I find many aspects of their épisodes enjoyable and I happily go back and rewatch them every few months...I'm glad some of you get a jolt every time a new one is released, and they do provide entertainment. But comments like saying these are just as well-made as many in the real Star Trek, IMO, just serve to belittle just how immensely-talented writers and producers like Robert Justman, Gene Coon, Dorothy Fontana and George Clayton Johnson actually were.
