Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

Wow, I used to cut out Star Trek listings from TV Guide in the early 1970s. What a strange thing to find someone else did.

Motorcycle: Putting the motorcycle in the new images feels like a "Screw You!" from the Paramount trainee who put it in the trailer and was told "fans" didn't like it.

"We're going to kill one of your favorite characters" trope: Screw you too! That'll take my estimation of quality writing down a Pegg. Okay, so it worked so well for Spock, they'll do it again to someone else. I'm guessing Cupcake.

Here's an example from TV Guide back in the day:

I'm more intrigued by the use of "adventure" in the descriptions. Clearly, it can't be Star Trek.

Thanks for the link, Malaika! Lots of interesting stuff, e.g. that Sofia Boutellla's makeup involved applying black latex pieces, not just painting patterns on the skin. Saldana hints that maybe Uhura has cooled on her loverboy, and maybe even someone will die.

So far we haven't seen much of Uhura, Sulu and Chekov in the trailers, which is a bit disappointing but may be deceptive, e.g. at the fan event Pine said that Kirk and Chekov actually get teamed up in a sort of mismatched buddy comedy, so there may be a lot that the trailers haven't hinted at.

Interesting to read Pegg talking about "owning it" and not being ironic and self-aware as in the Marvel movies etc. Looking back, that was kind of the problem with TFF and INS, so it's good they're playing it straight.

At this point my only real doubt about the movie is Elba's heavy makeup and modulated voice. But even if he does end up being a bit stiff, I think the rest of the movie should be good.

50 new species in the movie to celebrate the 50th anniversary - can we expect a limited complete set of figurines? If they added two more, you could have a complete set of playing cards!

Q and Trelane could be the Jokers...

None of this makes any sense at all.

First of all, love the poster, though the "Force Awakens" vibe is annoying to me, but wouldn't be the first time the two franchises have impacted each other. Also, I like the motorbike just fine.

So, let me see if I understand the arguments correctly.

-Kirk Prime likes antique weapons and that's ok.
-Picard likes horse riding, fencing and pulpy mystery holodeck novels, as well as classical music and Shakespeare.
-Sisko loves baseball and keeps a ball in his office.
-Janeway loves Gothic era romance and Paris is considered a history buff, and his knowledge is actually useful on multiple occasions.
-nu-Kirk grows up with an antique car and enjoys riding a motorcyle and it's considered weird, and not only that, but insulting to the audience.

What am I missing?

You forgot Archer liking his dog...I'm halfway through Enterprise series, so can't tell you if he likes antiques yet.;) Or anything else really, though he does seem to hold a grudg against most Vulcans.

Guys guys anyone posted this big cast interview yet??

Spoilerish, 3 pages and lots of interesting stuff
Nice article.

I laughed out loud at the notion that Pegg took it onto himself to enter the names of dead TOS red shirts onto his phone in case he wanted to use any of them. "The Dead Red Shirts", there's the name of a rock band for you.

Motorcycles are for the great unwashed.

Yeah they already killed off Cupcake in ID on Kronos.
Nahh Cupcake's alive, they only killed him in the novelization. He didn't appear in the rest of STiD, but I think Memory Alpha has him being listed as being in Beyond. The only source I can find is IMDB, so grain of salt on that. Although that does look like him behind Keenser in the first trailer.

There's already a Folk/Rock band called 'The Red Shirts'. Still alive....for the moment. :D

I think it really comes down to "cool factor." Star Trek isn't supposed to look cool, I guess.

The Nemesis Effect, and Justin Lin action-for-its-own-sake paranoia.
*sighs* Because Star Trek, especially films, have never, ever, had action. And, if it appeared in Nemesis it must be bad.

Motorcycles are for the great unwashed.
I'm reminded of the quote from SF Debris:
"A story is not less cerebral just because it has action scenes. Otherwise you might as well argue that Henry V is less cerebral than Snow Dogs."

There's already a Folk/Rock band called 'The Red Shirts'. Still alive....for the moment. :D
That doesn't seem physically possible ;)

Here's a poster from TVH that's not seen much. Spock said "I seem to have....misplaced my uniform." I guess someone found it. :D

Maybe I'm remembering a different terrible film with Ron Perlman dressed up as Space Dracula, but I honestly don't recall a lot of action in Nemesis. Especially compared to First Contact, or hell, even Insurrection.
