The visuals sure look stunning. Maybe its a camera trick that makes those nacelle pylons look as if they are sloping back. Tough to say.

New trailer much better than the previous one. It is odd that they kept the bike jump in, after Lin complained about them using it in the previous trailer.
Some hater on youtube complained that there was "no character drama" in the trailer, which is just mindboggling.

That is one big a$$ station.
I am wondering if this is actually a space-elevator. That would be a first for scifi movies, as far as I know.

nice videos of the event appearing on utube:

Lin saved Axanar! I did not know that...

Ya, after looking at the GIF RAMA posted, I think they definitely tweaked the model of the Enterprise. Granted, since I don't think ILM is handling the effects on this, it looks to be Atomic Fiction and Double Negative, they could have rebuilt the model themselves, rather then use an asset provided by ILM. I looks like the pylons are swept back as well as curving up, like they were in ST and STID. It also looks like they may have thinned the neck out a little bit as well. It seems less bulky. It seems like they have added more phaser banks on the top and bottom of the saucer section as well. They don't look to be at the traditional 0-90-180 degree locations that they are traditionally in.

Would that be just an upgrade to the Enterprise in the beginning of the film?

Aye, the updates to the model are clearly visible in the parts of the trailer where the swarm is destroying the Enterprise, you can actually count the new phaser emitters on the underside of the saucer at the beginning of the second trailer. So odds are good they're going to be off screen updates that took place some time before the film started.

Thanks for the link, Malaika! Lots of interesting stuff, e.g. that Sofia Boutellla's makeup involved applying black latex pieces, not just painting patterns on the skin. Saldana hints that maybe Uhura has cooled on her loverboy, and maybe even someone will die.

So far we haven't seen much of Uhura, Sulu and Chekov in the trailers, which is a bit disappointing but may be deceptive, e.g. at the fan event Pine said that Kirk and Chekov actually get teamed up in a sort of mismatched buddy comedy, so there may be a lot that the trailers haven't hinted at.

Interesting to read Pegg talking about "owning it" and not being ironic and self-aware as in the Marvel movies etc. Looking back, that was kind of the problem with TFF and INS, so it's good they're playing it straight.

At this point my only real doubt about the movie is Elba's heavy makeup and modulated voice. But even if he does end up being a bit stiff, I think the rest of the movie should be good.

50 new species in the movie to celebrate the 50th anniversary - can we expect a limited complete set of figurines? If they added two more, you could have a complete set of playing cards!

...And of course it was the Mike Minor version of the ship, looking so much closer to the original.
I know that Minor did various paintings and renderings of the refit ship, but I believe those were all based upon the designs Jefferies was doing (which were then modified by Probert and Taylor to become the TMP ship).

Wow, that was definitely a fascinating read. Some of it I think has been said before, but further fleshed out here.

In short I'm quite excited about this movie--but have been since the first trailer!

Speaking of Sofia Boutellla, late last year I got to see her in the workprint of the as-yet-unreleased feature Jet Trash, made by director Charles Henri Belleville, who I was working with, and she was pretty damned good in that.

yeah, she's saying that Spock is crazy in love with Uhura and maybe he loves her more than she loves him
maybe he wants to marry her and she's not ready, lol. I have a feeling she's messing up with us anyway but she picked my curiosity for sure.
I don't understand her comment about them being old in the series, though
You take it as her implying that someone could die or are you talking about another comment I missed (or maybe the point made by Pegg that everything can happen in this new reality)

I watched the trailer only few times but to be honest, I got the impression that we see more of Uhura (or maybe what we saw made more an impression on me) than Chekov, Sulu..
Zoe said her character has a lot of face time with the bad guy so my hope is that Uhura and Sulu, being the ones captured by the villain unlike their friends, might be the characters that help the whole exposition of the story of the villain.. and thus we see more of this world and these people through them because they are there, in the core of it all, while the others are, obviously, trying to hide from the villain and his people.

in short, I think for those of us who are interested about seeing more of these people and what they are doing to the crew and why they attacked them, MAYBE we have to rely on Uhura and Sulu because they are the ones there and can see stuff and interact with the bad guys.
