The nuns are fine as long as you keep responses down to just 'Yes', 'No' or 'That' would be an ecumenical matter'Except for the Nuns and their yard sticks?

I was going to write something snarky, but I should instead post what the snarky actually translates into: Congratulations!Funny story: our former next-door neighbors recently confessed to me that they thought I'd never amount to much, since I spent all my time reading science fiction and comic books.![]()
I know. My Mom always bugged me that I should branch out in my reading material, yet she always reads mystery or legal drama novels.I just think it's incredibly judgmental to make assumptions about somebody's future success in life based on what genres of entertainment they enjoy during their leisure time.

This thread is making me feel very grateful for my own family. My mother, to her dying day, could not have told you the difference between STAR TREK and STAR WARS if her life depended on it. (She thought SMALLVILLE was a show about little people . . . really.)
But she never made any efforts to stifle my own individual interests and dutifully drove me to comic-book stores and science fiction conventions and PLANET OF THE APES marathons, just like she drove my various siblings to soccer practice, gymnastics, Girl Scout cookie sales, or whatever. She and my dad didn't care what I read . . . as long as I kept my grades up.
Thanks, Mom.

I like both of them. I catch some friendly flak for Taylor Swift from friends, and I'm the only one who likes Superman over Batman rather than vice versa. But people are dumb about stuff like this. They will make something the coolest thing in the world (like "Ice Ice Baby" or "Achy Breaky Heart", both of which I *still* have on my player and crank up in the car) for a little while, and then suddenly it becomes cool to hate on them instead. Or like with Tay Tay and Supes, they like stuff but want to pretend they don't for some reason. They can say whatever they want, but Taylor Swift is still selling an awful lot of tracks, and Supes is still selling an awful lot of movie tickets and merchandise, and it ain't ALL to just lil ole you and me!I got hated on for liking Taylor Swift and liking Superman!![]()
