Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

I liked this trailer way more than the first. I find it more balanced and I like they more or less made a good intro of all the characters giving the idea that this movie is more an ensemble than a solo Kirk movie.

Idris made a little appearance here but that one scene with Uhura just makes me think, alone, that Nero might have competition as my favorite villain in the reboot. I already find this character far more intriguing than Benedict's.

The warp effect is amazing.
I'm not a big fan of the f&f franchise but I see Lin's touch on those shots. He has a great sense of the negative space around action sequences and likes to have wider crops so you can clearly see more details in the scene (there is a more specific technical term used to describe this style but I don't remember it right now)
In that sense, he is a perfect director for a movie set in the space.

I wonder if they will do a prologue (like Into Darkness) detailing another mission before the team heads to Starbase Yorktown.

One thing that perplexes me and it's not that big of a deal but I will use spoiler code not to offend...........
If the E gets swarmed and shot down.........and they repair the Franklin to escape why would they take time to don Franklin uniforms? Seems like it would be the last thing to worry about. Feels like we are missing a piece of the puzzle, which is cool with me. Would love to be surprised at some parts.

been thinking, maybe after the positive vibe of this fan edition TMP poster they will decide to use it as the actual main one sheet in the theatres?

As for the jackets:

They leave the Enterprise with only their normal uniforms in the evacuation. After the Franklin is found, they've just shrugged on the jackets from the lockers over that. It's probably for extra protection taking on the swarm guards and keeping warm during the night scenes.

What is the consensus of the new warping effect? It certainly plays into new theories on how a space warp would look like, and it certainly gives the ship a more nautical feel.
I think it's fantastic, and it reminds me of the gravitational distortion caused by the wormhole in Interstellar. I appreciate that they've made an effort to change and improve on the warp effect in each film. It really gives the impression of Scotty actually tinkering with the engines and recalculating formulas to improve warp efficiency between missions.

That and the cosmetic improvements to the engines themselves each time. The Enterprise has undergone several major upgrades in a few years the way we always figured Starfleet provided, just never saw until now.

Can't wait to see the effect on the big screen, hopefully in 3D.

I'm pleased Justin Lin is in the captain's chair.

The man took F&F from an overly seriously acted police drama to an annual fun fest where you could feel that the cast formed a family and had fun together in fun stories. This is what the TOS movies always felt like to me, as well.

That Lin is able to balance a large cast well, and strike a similar tone is awesome, he fits the TOS era like a glove. Here's hoping for a great run!

Spock would change uniform and pick one from the franklin because his is stained with blood since he's injured. I didn't notice the others changing uniform but why do Kirk and Chekov wear that different uniform and why only them? In the trailer it looks like they both get in their escape pods with their regular duty uniform.

I believe that it is some kind of field gear that is already in the escape pods.

Wait, folks are upset over Faraci bring positive and excited about this flick? I don't like him much either, but I'm happy to hear that he's genuinely happy about this.

I think the reason the first trailer was average was that tmany of the visuals just weren't finished in time. Here's a comparison of shots from first and second trailer: (second on the bottom).

F&F was never anything like "an overly serious police drama." That's completely wrong. Lin did improve it, though.

It's the weird physics of that shot that bug me more than the CG rocks, but I'm not too worried about it.

It was more of a POINT BREAK rip-off, then Lin turned it into OCEAN'S 11 with cars which was more fun. I don't like that first film, but the fifth surprised me.

In the previous two films, JJ made space feel small. In this trailer space feels big and vast again. The ships feel weighty. This is a very good sign IMO.

That's a good point. The JJ movies (which I like to a fair extent) made space seem even smaller and less wondrous than TNG did. That was one thing that never felt right.
