Galoob Micro Machines

I've kept most of them in their boxes but have a few out on display with models. Cardie ships w/DS9. TOS Ent and D-7 with K-7 station.

I have most of the Micro-Machines including the Enterprise-A that came in a special box set. But I opened a lot of them. I did keep one box closed that has the Excelsior in it with a registration of NX-2000. I don't know how rare this one is.

AAAAA, now you're making this worse! ;)

It's been a looong time I held it, but I don't remember it being bigger. It was a part of 3 ship set, and perhaps had something to do with 'Generations' movie, don't remember for certain though.

Yeah, it was a Generation's three pack: The Enterprise B, Klingon BoP, and the Saucer-sep ENT D.

I bought this three pack when I was a kid.... and again a few years ago when I found it at a local comic book shop. I still have all three ships actually (think i lost the stands though) I'll take a picture and try to figure out how to post it.

When I was younger, I loved these micromachines. I remember I bought the DS9 three-pack with the runabout, DS9, and the Cardassian Galor ship. I also got the very first big box set that came with the Enterprise A exclusive. I never could find the second and third big box sets they released. I wanted Voyager, a type 9 shuttle, the Future Ent D from All Good Things, The Pasteur, The Defiant, and all the others that were in those box sets.

What was the third one? I remember missing one but I don't remember what was in it aside from the Ent E.

I managed to get the rest though, aside from the Type 9 Shuttle. Though the set the Voyager came in, despite the expense, was mostly thrown aside. Teenage me couldn't give a hoot about the Kazon ship or the Raider when I had the new Trek ship and it's moving nacelles :p

I played the hell out of those ships when I was a kid. I managed to collect all 3 collector's box sets along with an additional collector's set made to look like it's made of pewter. I only received them as birthday gifts and never went after the little 3-packs. I have most of the ships still too. All I seem to be missing is the non-separating E-D, DS9, runabout, and E-D shuttle.

I used to collect these all the time- the Trek and Star Wars sets had ships you could never find anywhere else. I also like the Babylon 5, Alien/Predator and Indiana Jones ones as well.
Small and simple, they were cheap and easy to collect- like a low budget version of the Eaglemoss ships.

They have resurfaced with 'The Force Awakens' film now, my sone has a number of them already.

YOu can fix bent nacelles pretty easily. Boil a pot of water, hold the micro machine in there for a few seconds. When you pull it out it will be floppy. Straighten them out and hold them under cold running water to set it in place.

Good luck!

Does the paint job survive this process okay?

I started a thread on this a few years back. It's nice to have people talking about them again.

I managed get the first 16-ship set in '94, when I was about twelve. Unfortunately, the second and third sets were never sold in Canada, for reasons I've never understood, but my dad managed to pick up the second one on a business trip to Vegas in '97. The third one, as you know was far more elusive. There's usually a couple being sold on eBay, but they can go for upwards of $400 CDN, which was quite a bit out of my price range. I finally managed to win one on there for a better price.

I'm afraid many of the ships from the first set didn't hold up too well over the years. Years of being dropped or knocked off shelves onto the hardwood has caused the Excelsior and pretty much all the Enterprises in the set to have their saucers broken off, the Reliant lose both nacelles (though they at least stay in place) and the Bird-of-Prey to lose one of its guns. On top of that, a lot of the ships from first AND second sets are quite visibly dirty from years of being handled with my grubby little fingers. (This is why I never pick up one of my Eaglemoss ships without washing my hands first). Also, some of the ships from the second set don't really pass quality control. The saucer-separating 1701-D is the worst. There's a HUGE split where the "neck" meets the base of the secondary hull and the painted-on phaser ring on the top of the saucer is completely off.

Partly for this reason (and because they were a good price), I've gotten a second copy of the first and second sets. Some of ones from those sets don't look that great either, (the 1701-B and C are both a little warped, no pun intended), but thankfully no real overlap. So I now have at least one relatively good-condition copy of every ship, except the four that were never in the big sets (Caretakers' array, Kazon torpedo, solar sailing ship, and the "HMS Bounty" version of the BoP), none of which I'm really pining for.

They stopped producing new ones around 1996/97. Admittedly, by that point they'd covered pretty much all the "hero" ships and major alien ships that existed up to that point (the NX-01, of course, wouldn't come for a few more years), and they were getting into some pretty obscure ones (I don't think you could fill a fourth set with ones like the Klaestron or Numiri ship). They still looked good though, and I'd LOVE the chance to ask a few questions of whoever was in charge of picking which ships they were going to do. (I'd rather have had the Merchantman than that fat-looking Spacedock shuttle, for instance). I don't really pay as much attention to them these days, as my attention has moved on to the Eaglemoss set, but I still have some fond memories of those little ships.

Edited to add:

The third set consisted of:

Spacedock shuttle
Voyager
Voyager shuttle
Maquis ship
Kazon raider
Kazon mothership
Kazon fighter (not quite accurate to the final design shown on -screen)
Numiri ship
Saratoga (basically a remold of the Reliant without the roll bar)
Klaestron ship
Keldon class (called "Cardassian Obsidian" for some reason)
Jem'Hadar attack ship
Karemma ship
Miradorn ship
Bajoran raider
Enterprise-E as bonus.

I've always wanted to know why the Caretaker's Array, Sisko's Bajoran Solar Sailing Ship, HMS Bounty, and Kazon "Torpedo" were left out of the third collector's set and only available in the little three-packs.

All of the collector's sets had SIXTEEN ships. They may not have been willing to include those with the third set, which would bring up the cost, or maybe they didn't realize the series was coming to an end when they made them and anticipated a fourth set (God knows what they would've put in THAT!)

I've got quite a few of those little guys--I keep 'em all in their own dresser drawer, but it's been awhile, so I had to pull them all out to see what I've got:
  • TOS Enterprise
  • TOS Klingon Battlecruiser (D7-class)
  • Romulan Bird of Prey
  • USS Excelsior (NCC-2000)
  • Klingon Bird of Prey
  • USS Reliant
  • TNG Klingon Battlecruiser (Vor'cha-class)
  • Borg Cube
  • Romulan Warbird
  • Enterprise-D
  • Ferengi Marauder
  • Cardassian warship
  • Deep Space 9
  • Runabout
  • USS Grissom
  • TMP Vulcan Shuttle
  • Enterprise-C
  • Enterprise-B
  • Klingon Bird of Prey HMS Bounty (with moveable wings)
  • Enterprise-D (with detachable saucer)
  • Spacedock Shuttle
  • USS Farragut (Nebula-class)
  • DS9 USS Defiant
  • Jem'Hadar Attack Ship
  • DS9 USS Saratoga
  • USS Voyager
  • Maquis Raider
  • Kazon Attack Ship
Huh--had more than I thought I did...

I imagine if they had done another wave in 1997/1998 they'd have made First Contact and Insurrection ships, maybe the Krenim weapon ship or more from TOS they missed.

Thanks for that! Thats the set I missed out on (it was in Argos at the time) though aside from the E and shuttles, I don't think it would have interested me much. I just remember the E being there and wanting it.

I have mine displayed with the Eaglemoss DS9 model as the focal point. Imagine the DS9 micromachine is Empok Nor in the distance.

I loved Micro Machines as a kid, and even though I would have loved their Star Trek line I never had any. I didn't know they even made them until years later. Looks like they started making them in '93 and I think I had lost interest in them by then. I did have all the Back To The Future II Micro Machines with the Texaco/Hoverport and some Batman ones. While not technically Micro Machines I did have some of Galoob's Star Wars Micro Collection playsets.
