I don't really need a long intro, they are fine for one or two episodes then we fast forward through them, especially in binge viewing. I daresay most people are the same. 10 seconds is short, but 30 seconds, I'm down with that.

Star Trek has a good history with intros, the last one for Enterprise was the best, and it won an industry award as well.

As someone going through the whole franchise for the first time and has been binging it for months now, I don't believe I've skipped the intro nor credits once yet

I'm probably an outlier on that one, but still, it's easy to skip. I love listening to the intro music each episode, TNG's especially.

I just wonder how many minutes or hours all those intros/credits I've watched have added up to by now.

Generally I skip title credit sequences, but a really clever one like Game of Thrones I'll watch every time. The other one that always got me to watch it was Firefly, just seemed so perfect for the show.

I like the way Venture Bros has tended to do opening credits for a while - full opening for the first episode of the season, title card and a stab of music for the rest. You get to have your cake (cool intro) and eat it too (get on with it!).

I typically won't skip over the credits unless I'm really in a hurry, or it's set up to be skippable with a single press of a button. But, unless the credits are really amazing, I generally wish they'd spend less time on them. I don't see why any show should really need more than 30 seconds, and if a show can do it in less in a way that still works for them, I appreciate that. (That was the very first thing that grabbed my attention when Lost premiered)

Is that the right link? It's to Adam Savage's facebook page. He's promoting the Beyond fan event, but I don't see any reference to the TV show and production.

Larry Nemecek is possibly most well known for his creation of the Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion, has provided a wealth of material to the knowledge base of the Star Trek universe, particularly during the pre-Internet (read: pre-Memory Alpha) days, when Larry’s guide books were the only go to reference source you needed on your bookshelf.

We also asked him what he thinks about upcoming Star Trek Beyond and, perhaps more in Larry’s wheelhouse, how he feels about CBS’s new Star Trek television series, Star Trek All Access.

That whole interview with Rod screams that he's an outsider in the process of creating the new series. Just an observation . . .

It's good to have Roddenberry involved in a Star Trek series. He may have some ideas to contribute for the new series.

All of the Trek premieres since TOS have had an appearance by an actor from an earlier series or movie, so who would you want to see in the new show? If the new show is post-Nemesis, then I would love to see Picard or Worf. Michael Dorn's been trying to get a Captain Worf series going, so maybe instead of giving him his own show he could be a recurring character here.

It would be amazing if we got a post-NEM series with JLP making an appearance in the first episode to pass the torch.

In general I think the passing the torch moment is overdone in Trek. It was cute on TNG, but when it became a thing and ENT had to find a way to do it, it became too much. I'd just assume they not bother. But if they do stick with it and it's a post TUC series, then it could be Captain Harriman handing over command to the new captain of the ENT B/C. Now that I write that, it really hits me as such pointless fanwank that I hope they don't do it.

Usually these appearances had been from a cast member from the previous series, but I really can't think of a way to work an Ent cast member into the premiere, especially if it's post-Nemesis. You could go for Voyager since it was the last 24th Century series, but I don't think that would have the kind of newsworthyness, or appeal as getting a TNG cast member on.

I'm thinking it's more likely to be in the large void between TUC and TNG as people are speculating. The slightly annoying thing there is we have a pre-set movie era design ethos for ships and sets etc which is all likely to be thrown out and totally redone. That doesn't really bother me a huge amount, but it'd be nice if they kept things in line at least a little. I think a series dealing with the tentative new alliance with the klingons would be really good, leaving room for the action they seem to think is all we want to see, and some nice political/diplomatic storylines to make you think.

You could have Worf as well to do the torch passing. I would find that interesting as well in a post-NEM series.
