What continuity errors are there on Voyager?

That's right! The Harry in Ashes to Ashes was Duplicate Harry. Maybe in Duplicate Harry Kim's Universe there was no Libby and he was telling Lyndsay the truth.

Maybe Janeway had told Tom not to bring it up with Harry. Or, as I wrote before, Tom and B'Elanna were polite enough to keep quiet about the dilemma Harry was in.

And Harry really was a player. In the Voyager book "Incident At Arbuk", Tom is interested in a woman, Ensign Marta Dvořák. When Tom finally decides to make his move, he pushed the alarm button at her door and was met by Ensign Dvořák in a white nightgown. When Tom suggested that she would join her for a holodec picnic, she told him that she already had plans for the evening. When Tom looked in the same direction as she looked, he discovered Harry Kim sitting there with a wine glass in his hand. So Paris left and could state that Kim had learned from a master.

Later on, when Tom and Neelix were stranded on "Planet Hell" in "Parturition" after having that famous "spaghetti fight" over Kes, it actually looked like Harry tried to sweep in on Kes too, sitting in her quarters and trying to comfort her while maybe thinking that "if they die on the planet, I might have the chance on you". ;)

A year later, he was furious at Tuvok because he suspected that Tuvok tried to steal his holodeck love Marayna.

And in the book "Marooned" which takes place in November 2373 (Season 3) harry seem to have a very friendly relationship with Ensign Lyssa Campbell.

I'm beginning to think that "young innocent Ensign Kim" wasn't that innocent after all!

I think all the Trek shows have stupid continuity issues and it probably depends on the individual how much it bothers you. I think DS9 ones bothered me more because I expected more from them than Voyager. Some that pissed me off in Season 7 were the Mirror Universe cloaking devices (they have them in "Through the Looking Glass/don't have them in "Emperor's New Cloak", how long Section 31 had been around for (Stated as over 300 years in "Tacking into the Wind", well before Starfleet was created), how long the Dominion had been around for (2000 years "To the Death/10000 years "The Dogs of War) and non-Organic Breen ships (VGR: "Scorpion). Or why does no one know what a Breen looks like, when they've mugged Breen and stole their clothes in multiple episodes! And where did the shield bubbles around the ships go?
I don't think Voyager tried as much as it could've but I feel that the network mandate of having zero continuity made people less interested in getting everything as correct as I'd be happy with. So in a way I respect Enterprise a bit more because it tried to follow up continuity more, so even if they mess stuff up in "Minefield" I'm inclined to let it pass.

Having multiple romantic relationships at the same time does not require one to be a "two-timing asshole." Polygyny, or in this case polyamory, is a perfectly valid and respectable lifestyle.

I'm perfectly aware of polyamory, as I myself am poly. My point is that the way I'm interpreting things here (omitting for the moment that it's a continuity error, and not the actual intent), is that it looks like Libby and Lyndsey did not know of each others' existence, thereby implying that Harry was dishonest by having a relationship with two women who weren't aware of the other. That's cheating, not being polyamorous.

Why can't they just be friends?

There was never any hint that Harry and Lyndsey were ever actually in a relationship. There was some unspoken chemistry and possible sexual tension but they never acted on it. Nothing in the episode suggests otherwise.

I certainly don't think Harry cheated on Libby.

One usually doesn't try to get posted to a ship because he likes a girl on that ship, while simultaneously is planning to get married to a girl who's on Earth.

I just watched parts of this episode again. Bit painful but I did it. Anyway, I agree. Sounds like Harry just had a crush which started before Libby. Maybe Lyndsey was seeing someone else seriously at the time and he decided it was a lost cause and then met Libby but still carried a bit of a torch for Lyndsey.

He said he was nuts about her but it never went anywhere. He never said anything about getting posted to a ship that I recall. He said he changed his academy schedule to be in the same classes as her and importantly...

Then I'm probably remembering the ship thing wrong. But if he changed his academy schedule to be in the same classes as her, and he was in the academy while being engaged to Libby, then...whuh?

Funny he doesn't mention Libby as being the reason why he stopped pursuing Lynsday.

He could have known her before he met Libby but it's like I said before....the later showrunners evidently pretended the first two seasons didn't happen( apart from Voyager being lost in the Delta Quadrant of course)

Do we know when and for how long Harry and Libby were engaged? Was it during his time at the Acadamy? For all we know she could have popped the question the day before his first deployment.

That's not really the point. The point is that thanks to a continuity error by the writers, Kim was involved romantically with two women at the same time. Which is why I mentioned it in a thread called "What continuity errors are there on Voyager?"

The reality is that most (not all, but most) of Voyager's continuity errors were small-fry piecemeal stuff like the number of shuttles destroyed or whatnot. It felt much more obvious when TNG or DS9 dropped the ball on their continuity because they had a much greater sense of internal continuity to begin with, whereas VOY was always more of a TOS-style format where there was less of an 'overall picture' to focus on.

Huh. Didn't realize it was a zombie thread until you mentioned it. Is there some rule I'm not aware of that says newbies have to resurrect old threads when they join the TrekBBS? :p

If someone doesn't like the thread don't bother to come back to it. Getting sick and tired of people sh*tting on threads because THEY think it shouldn't be around anymore. Message the moderator about it but these snide posts about older threads is getting old.

Personally older threads seem just as valid to me as new ones, after all nothing about a bbs implies urgency or live interaction, if you read something interesting and feel you have something to add, I see no problem.
