I went to both (2012 and 2014) I will say that 2014 was an improvement over the previous one but not by much. I will go in Oct, even though it's quite a drive to Birmingham....it's the 50th isn't it so it's gotta be done! I have most of the autographs i want so i wont be spending much. Frakes better turn up this time but i'm not banking on it. We'll see what happens...

October 7th is my birthday... If they end up getting the delightful Miss Cocco there, I'm setting a course at Warp 9.98

Most people interested in this event, and there aren't many of them, seem to think the tickets aren't selling, so given that everyone expects Frakes not to show, expect him to be cancelled to get the wage bill down.

In my estimation, Joiner has approx the next 2 months to drastically improve the guest line up, or I can see hm cancelling the whole event. At the moment, the whole thing has the stench of his ill fated Warp 10 event, an event which he only ever announced two guests for, cancelled twice, and took 18 months to refund ticket holders.

Warp 10 - was the the one that was cancelled in the middle of the event?

Can somebody tell me more about this Joiner fella?

I went to my first convention in Oct 2014. I had a great time talking to Bruce Greenwood (he is soooo cute, it was his first and he said he was enjoying himself), Levar Burton stopped and talked to me and my friend and Nichelle Nichols allowed us to take pics of her (even tho she said I am not supposed to do this but what the heck come on girls! Fantastic!). Sir Patrick Stewart looked very thin. I saw William Shatner and he does look good for his age. The STTNG gang was there as well. The actors who played Rom, Nog and Vic were funny. I spotted Karl Urban as well no one was queuing at his table but this was a Sunday so maybe all his fans had been and gone. He did look bored, I should have said hello since I think he is yummy but I had already spent my money on Uhura and Pike photos. I might go to Birmingham, depends on the weather lol

I could tell you some stories. The quick version... you know that Alec Peters fellow? Yeah, kind of like that.

I've had experiences with him and he was just one of the most unpleasant people I've met and when his customer base was openly unhappy with the events, he'd just shout them down (I'm a success, you're a punter etc) or ban them. Our local con was a shambles - and he was incredibly rude to anyone who didn't praise his lackluster effort as a godsend. He even went as far to say were were undeserving and 'too cheap' a nation to bother with.

When he banned my wife he refused to tell her what she'd done wrong (she hadn't done anything), gave her some very nasty messages, was very patronising and even threatened that with his magnificent power, she'd never be allowed in London - and no refunds.

Can't say our brief business interaction was much better.

We were considering DSTE as an anniversary trip - but since finding out he was involved, our interest dropped (and we're still probably banned anyway :p)

Not a nice bloke then, I guess... The convention that was cancelled in the middle of the first day might not have been with him then - I recall something to do with Ethan Phillips leading a drinking session on the stage

A view shared across many film prop/memorabilia forums, Star Wars prop forums, pop culture convention forums, and booking agents. It's absolutely no surprise that Joiner seems to be having great difficulty getting guests for any of his events, let alone DSTE.

Looks like I'll be going now, it's right on my doorstep and the guests look reasonable to me, not going to pay for any of the silly price tickets but the basic day out should be a fun trip with my mother.

You're not going to pay silly prices? It's £29 to get through the door, after which, apart from a few free talks from the minor guests, they'll be nothing to do. People at the previous two events who didn't pay for autos or photoshoots left within an hour of arrival. All it is is a signing event dressed up as a convention.

I was that people with only a regular ticket with no additional stuff paid for, and I had a blast for 2 days in London two years ago. So no, there was a lot to do, unless all you want is photos and siggies. I was there for talks, and the free ones were great not to leave me disappointed.

Might be me being pedantic - but if there's a minimum cover charge for entry with no bells or whistles.... is there really a free talk?

£29 to walk into a basic convention package for one day seems.... Quarkish.

At the 5 Captains disaster event in 2012, there was a massive scrum for tickets to the free talks which were held in a tiny cordoned off area with about 200 seats. If memory serves, the people who got in to the first free talk then sat in their seats for most of the day, and no effort was made to move them to allow new people in.

The event 2014 event was supposedly a little better organised for free talks, but aside from Nick Meyer, I don't think any of the bigger guests did any, so it's up to you whether, looking at the guest list for DSTE, you think any of the lesser guests will have anything to say that you want to pay £29 to hear. And given Showmasters' well known appalling sound system, you probably won't hear much at all, especially as the talk stages will almost certainly be held in the main area where everyone else is milling around.

Bad luck. She's at Sci-Fi and Beyond 7th-9th October.

I suspect Chase would've made her excuses even if she wasn't at Sci-Fi and Beyond. I read she was in tears at DSTL in 2012.
