Fan production ideas....

Just as fans have discussed possible ideas for hypothetical Trek series here we could toss around ideas for potential Trek fan productions.

Despite Axanar becoming a train wreck it must be said the subject of the production itself had potential as a story worth exploring. It had the potential to be something a bit different than the more familiar concept of revisiting an already familiar crew from an official production or telling the stories of a new crew aboard another ship from one of the familiar Trek eras.

In the developing stages is a new production that will explore the Pike era aboard the Enterprise. There is another production set in that same era only set aboard a different ship with a different crew. I've long thought this an interesting idea to explore the road NBC chose not to take way back in the beginning. It remains to be seen whether these productions will manage to engage my interest sufficiently in a way I think such projects might be executed.

So not only is this a place to discuss possibilities for some new hypothetical fan productions, but we could also discuss what we might like to see explored in existing productions.

Thoughts anyone?

What I'd like to see is fan productions stay within their limitations. Throughout Renegades, all I could think is how amazing a brilliantly written 90-minute story with some of the talent involved locked in a single room could be, rather than having them try to recreate a galaxy-spanning adventure on a miniscule budget.

Good writing matters. How often in TOS did they make reference to things "beyond the bulkhead" that we never actually saw, but triggered our imagination? They made references to exotic aliens species and all manner of things.

The Johnson brothers return to Starship Exeter completing their 5 year mission. So much potential from the craft done by their team of collaborated artists.

I personally really liked the idea of "Starship Saldin" and the explorations of some of the Franz Joseph's style fleet and another TOS era ship. I always like seeing different ships in the same era explored.

Maybe something set in the Starfleet Battles universe. It would actually fit the fascination fan films have with CGI better.

Like that? ;)

A Cage era series running in half hour segments and filmed in black-and-white. Make it feel like episodes of a lost season before TOS.

Okay maybe not half hour segments.

Try to shoot episides back-to-back to get 2-3 episodes out a year.

Half-hour could work. There's no reason a drama has to be one-hour. After all, HAVE GUN — WILL TRAVEL was a half-hour drama.

You could even name this fan Cage-era series: HAVE PHASERS — WILL TRAVEL

Or HAVE LASERS — WILL TRAVEL (if you want to be a stickler for the Cage-era pistols).

One last one. ;) Ignore the mangled date on the script headers. The really wasn't written 412 years ago,

It was written but put on hold due to preproduction setbacks on "The Tressaurian Intersection" and eventually put on the shelf when it was decided to focus on just finishing TTI. Joshua Johnson talked about making a radio play version of the story, mashing up the earlier script with mine, but that never happened. So this is a "coulda been".

It would be rather neat to do a STC and SE crossover where maybe this story could get filmed.

Is the Garrovick in SE supposed to be any relation to Ensign Garrovick from TOS or it's just a coincidence of names?
