Good Location!

Tell ya, if I could fit "I'll chase him 'round the moons of Nibia and 'round the Antares Maelstrom and 'round perdition's flames before I give him up!", I would!

Both cheeks? So close!...

TMITMITMITMI!!!

Yeah, why don't everyone celebrates IP theft more?

The very fact that there are "fan film awards" would irk me tremendously if I were one of the infringed owners, to be honest. Feels a bit like rubbing it in the face of the IP owners when most of them are pretty lenient when it comes to fan films.

ETA;: I'm aware that this particular award was ST specific, but my comments were meant in a general sense regarding award shows for "fan films".

Re the fanfilm awards, I still find it weird that they have no award for film editing, which is the thing that can make or break any movie. They have an award for sound design, mixing and editing, which isn't even an above-the-line credit, but none for editorial. Madness. :)
The panel was composed of fans - none of whom have any clue what "editing" is, and would prefer that all films, shows, and shorts be at least 3 hours long so that no detail is ever excluded.

Author David Gerrold has repudiated a derogatory quote about me attributed to him by Axanar producer Alec Peters in order to discredit AxaMonitor's coverage.

In the 3,969-member public Facebook group Star Trek, Peters criticized AxaMonitor's coverage of CBS' shutdown of the Star Trek–Horizon's sequel this way:
Let's be clear, the writer of that article, Cqarols [sic] Pedraza has a hard on for Axanar and does whatever he can to bash Axanar. He is neither a journalist nor a truth-seeker. He is also someone that David Gerrodl [sic] called a man “Wiith credits and no credential.”

Peters may not know that David Gerrold and I have been friends for 13 years (we collaborated on the teleplay for the Star Trek: New Voyages episode, “Blood and Fire”), so I was alarmed to hear something like this attributed to him.

‘I've had people attach my name to rumor, gossip, and lies before — it's one of the things that really pisses me off. ’Scifi author David Gerrold

Naturally, I reached out to David to inquire about the quote. Here's what he told me:
Alec and I were talking about a different project. We were talking about writers we knew and writers we'd trust.

A number of names came up. I was particularly candid about one self-inflated fanboy who had demonstrated inordinate rudeness to myself and other writers. Apparently, Alec was distracted — there were some phone calls in there — and didn't realize that I was talking about someone else.

It was supposed to be a private conversation anyway, and Alec should not have repeated the remark, and he should not have badmouthed anyone, particularly you, Carlos, and then attributed it to me.

I've had people attach my name to rumor, gossip, and lies before – it's one of the things that really pisses me off.

You may quote me.

It's a shame that, rather than engaging the Axanar controversy, and our coverage of it, with facts, Peters continues to choose ad hominem attacks, grasping at straws for whatever flimsy authority he can to bolster his attempt to discredit and deflect valid criticism by maligning the character of those making the criticism.

David also told me he would address the misattribution of his words directly with Peters, which I imagine led to this post today:
I have asked to remove my previous comment about Carlos Pedraza that was attributed to David Gerrold. David has indicated he was referring to another writer. That comment was said to me in private and I should not have repeated it here.

As further indication of Peters' unwillingness to engage on the facts, I had to rely on friends for the links to Peters' posts to that Facebook group because (surprise!) he had me blocked from the page. So, all in all, a fantastic apology.

Notwithstanding any regrettable damage done, the fact that Alec has no concept / no care that fans have children is such a penetrating insight..

So what is the "joint statement" which AxaMonitor says is due in court today?
According to Judge Klausner's March 4 order, both sides must submit a joint statement to the court no later than April 25 that includes “a brief factual summary of the case, including the claims being asserted.”

I applaud Mr. Gerrold's graciousness.

And no apology from a man who badmouthed someone, badmouthed the wrong someone, badmouthed the wrong someone out of context, and then attributed that badmouthing to a friend because he's a coward, and then posted it online.

Good to hear, David, addressed the issue to both you and Peters.

Seriously, Peters is a petulant child and lashes out in the most unprofessional ways.

Lord Alec has always seemed incapable of wrapping his warped little mind around the fact there's a world that exists apart from him..........throwing his little temper tantrums are not surprising unfortunately. I imagine he'll be kicking and screaming until his shriveled up heart finally gives out.
