Marvel v DC?

I am getting sick of this BS! I like both. Superman & The Punisher are my favs. People are saying BvS is a flop and Marvel keeps winning! Winning what? How was BvS a flop? How does DC suck and Marvel is so awesome? I like both and BvS did well $250m/$834.5 million so far.

I wish fans would stop being petty and be intellectually honest.

OMG! We can like all of it!

All right, I've run out of patience. "Underoos!"

I read comics from both as a kid though I fell out of DC. I didn't find it as realistic as Marvel. If an alien came to earth with godlike abilities, he'd be feared (like the X-Men) not worshipped. If it weren't for Batman and Green Lantern (which I'm starting to catch back up with), I would have left DC completely.

As for the movies, I like Marvel much more because Marvel is just more fun. Batman is supposed to be dark but making the whole DC universe dark because of Nolan's success was a bad idea if you ask me. Regardless of how bad Superman Returns turned out, it portrayed Superman way better than the moping brooding Man of Steel (well, if you take out the stalking), but SR's box office returns didn't help. However, even though NuSuperman has yet to win me, I did enjoy Batman V Superman mainly because it's about time they brought their heroes together. Wonder Woman rocked, Batfleck surprised the hell out of me, and the start of the Justice League has me on board regardless of BvS's mistakes (see Superman comments).

Of course, you'll find me in the theater for both companies. It's a bit nostalgic seeing what I read for decades on the big screen.

I don't have a fundamental preference, though thanks largely to the various Timm/Dini animated shows I'm much more familiar with DC. Though I was partial to the old 90's Spider-Man & X-Men cartoons, neither could hold a candle to what WB & DC were doing.
Indeed, to this day it seems that animation is still where DC consistently outdoes Marvel. You'd think being bought by Disney would change that, but so far that's not the case. On the current live action TV front, I'd say they're pretty neck-and-neck, but that's my subjective opinion.

On the movie front though, there's no question that Marvel are ruling the roost. Which is a shame since I'd love to see DC's properties handled with the same respect and competence that Marvel is showing their own IPs (the ones they have the movie rights to, anyway.)
I do however have high hopes for 'Suicide Squad' and the idea of Batfleck starring in and directing his own movie seems like a very good way to course correct after the sloppy mess of BvS.

How was BvS a flop?
By underperforming! A movie starring Batman and Superman and featuring Wonder Woman made significantly less domestically than Deadpool! That's not good.
Batman alone in The Dark Knight made a billion worldwide and 200 million more than BvS domestically, BvS should have been able to beat that, it didn't because after a great first weekend horrible word of mouth killed most of the general audience's interest.
And this isn't just any movie starring a random DC character, this is the cornerstone of their planned cinematic universe starring their most well known characters, it should have sprinted past a billion dollars. But being a fiancial disappointment isn't the worst part, the reception both by critics and audiences is disastrous.

How does DC suck and Marvel is so awesome?
Marvel makes movies with likable characters, that are a fun experience and make the audience want to see more. DC does not

]I like both and BvS did well $250m/$834.5 million so far.
It didn't do well at all, they also had a marketing budget of $150 million, it needed to make $850 million (according to ... Variety, THR? I forgot) to make a profit and it will after adding merchandise and home video releases etc. but not at the box office.
But like I said above, what makes BvS a failure isn't really the financial side, it's the crappy reception, the masses simply didn't like it.

And it's not like the DC characters themselves are the problem, on the tv side Flash, Arrow, Supergirl and Gotham are all received well. WB just doesn't know what to do with them and Zach Snyder is obviously not a comic book fan and doesn't get those characters at all.

I like both but I like Marvel more. Their CU has thoughtful planning and brilliant execution whereas DC is obviously playing catch-up, to mediocre results.

I don't think BvS was total crap but it did not even achieve the, some would say, lowered standards set by MOS. It gets worse each installment.

I want DC characters to succeed but Marvel/Disney has DC/Warner on the ropes. DCW needs to go to their corner and think about their strategy and adapt a better plan before moving forward or their next installments may end up in the shitter along with the likes of Fox's F4.

I've always been much more of a DC fan, but I can't deny that Marvel seems to have figured out the movie side a whole lot better, and how to make fun and entertaining movies that people want to go see (even if they do risk feeling a bit formulaic at times).

That being said though, I don't buy into the juvenile idea of there being some "competition" between the two. It's kinda hard to say DC sucks when their TV series are just as strong and popular as anything Marvel is doing. And even when their movies aren't as widely embraced, they still take in a huge amount of money anyway.

In general I'm a big fan of both, Batman and Spider-Man are my favorite superheroes.
I'm pretty much equal on the comics front, both companies have stories and characters I like.
On the TV front I'm pretty equal too, pretty much all of the shows produced by both companies are good to great.
I definitely prefer the Marvel movies though. I did enjoy BvS and MoS, but neither of them were at the same level as the Marvel movies.

As a consumer, I see no reason to be obligated to one at the exclusion of the other out of some sense of "brand loyalty," or whatever.

I like some DC and I like some Marvel, just like how I like some of Star Trek and some of Star Wars.

If someone put a gun to my head and forced me to pick one media franchise or show to be a loyal fan of at the exclusion of all others, I would probably ditch SF&F altogether and go with Mad Men, anyway.

I thought this thread was going to be this:
I love both Marvel and DC. I don't want to see the Marvel & DC movie threads bogged down by pointless Marvel vs DC fighting, so I created a thread for all those arguments. Please, please, please keep all the in-fighting discussions here and keep the movie threads about the actual movies. Thank you.

Anyway, I like both and I enjoy some variety in my movies, so it's good that each are different while still being awesome.
I see them more like this...

Was there supposed to be another pic between "and this..." and "and less like this..."? It isn't showing up.

UPDATE
After re-reading your post, I realized I decided to remove a 2nd picture due to redundancy, but forgot to remove "and this..." fixed now.

Both companies respect each other and want both to succeed. Yes, they each are competitive and want to make more than the other, but they don't want the other to fail.

If the movie or show is great I will like both. For example I like flash, Supergirl, and the Netflix marvel shows. In terms of movies I've seen more marvel films but there are some I don't like, like age of Ultron. I don't like the rivalry either but it is what it is.

Some Marvel superhero movies I've enjoyed, and would happily watch again:
X-Men
X2
X-Men: First Class
X-Men: Days of Future Past
Spider-Man 2
The Amazing Spider-Man
Iron Man
The Incredible Hulk
Iron Man 2
Thor
Captain America: The First Avenger
The Avengers
Iron Man 3
Thor: The Dark World
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Guardians of the Galaxy
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Ant-Man
Big Hero 6

Some DC superhero movies I've enjoyed, and would happily watch again:
The Dark Knight

... Yeah, I think that's enough of a contrast to choose a big-screen favorite. :p

@Gaith, I'd add Superman 1 and 2, Batman, and Batman Returns to the DC movie list, but yeah, Marvel currently has DC beat IMHO.

Marvel movies I consider classics:
Iron Man

DC movies I consider classics:
Superman
Superman II
Batman
The Dark Knight
(belongs with the whole trilogy though)

Marvel shows I consider classics:
Spider-Man (Animated Series)
The Incredible Hulk (1978)

DC shows I consider classics:
Batman (1966)
Wonder Woman

These have stood the test of time and/or had an impact on pop culture.
