CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

All allegedly going on:
He's preparing to move the studio to a stand alone entity. And reimburse Axanar, although exact amount not yet determined.

He's putting his props into a trust... which would make them harder to get to in the event of a judgment.

Bet he moves that house to a trust or LLC similarly. I would.

And clearly he's NOT doing anything about Axanar but delaying, which likely means he's given up on actually completing the production anytime soon.

So - preparing for judgment day IMHO.

And clearly getting some sophisticated, detailed advice from his "Senior Officers" in the "Ready Room".

Located in my home town, no less!

Correct. It's boring, tedious, uninteresting, nothing happening The thread could've ended at page five or somewhere early on. Both the outcome and implications are known. It's a thread that's packed because it's a nuTrek flashpoint and people feel strongly about that.
There's also not much else in Trek to talk about.

I predict that if the lawsuit is not resolved prior to July 22 then no one will care about it after that date. We're going to be too busy nitpicking Beyond and bemoaning the state of the franchise (while the movie rakes in hundreds of millions of dollars) to care about some little not-a-fan film. ;) Beyond should give us enough to chew on until the new show airs. By then, Axanar will be a rapidly fading memory.

Emphasis mine.

Nah. The legal stuff is interesting to me. Especially how the defendants are trying to argue their way out of stealing IP. I find it utterly fascinating. The lawyers that have spoken up alone... that has made it worthwhile to stick around.

But, if you don't care about copyright, then, yeah, maybe it's boring.

We may start getting some real news about the new TV series not too long after Beyond comes out, which will also generate discussion. In the meantime, though, this is still pretty entertaining.

It's interesting if it impacts other fan-films, like the speculation that it's sabotaging STC's fundraising. I also really want to see who gets named as John Does and what their ultimate liability is.

Whatever the original intentions of this project were it's become a behemoth of confusion, subterfuge and misdirection and, as such, I can usually find a couple of minutes a day to catch up on the latest twists and developments as and when they arise. The fact that a lot of money has been acquired from Star Trek fans much like myself is another draw because if these fans end up with nothing to show for their donations except a short scene set on Vulcan but the receivers of said donations have a set of offices and some sort of studio to begin the next phase of their careers with then surely we should all care?

I know, I know 'a fool and his/her money...' etc and it did only take me a couple of minutes on Google (other search engines are available) to learn enough about Alec Peters to set my Spider-Sense off but even so no-one deserves to get fleeced. If that's what end up happening.

There are options, as have been repeated in this thread, of what donors can do if they feel they have been cheated or fleeced. It's a question of whether or not any of them will pursue it.

I can't remember if I donated to Axanar to get the main feature film Blu-ray or not... if I had, I assume I would be getting e-mails from the Axanar team? Or my name would appear on the Donor Roster, even if I did so retroactively? I have a bad feeling that I always meant to donate, but ultimately forgot about it until recently....

Yeah, I wouldn't say that should be a bad feeling, if you didn't remember to donate. I would call that good fortune.

I believe we're capable of multi-tasking. :)

Meh. I'll try to find time for both. :)

As far as it being boring or tedious goes, we are in a lull, and it's not high drama, but this is a story full of:
-- good intentions gone bad,
-- hubris,
-- large egos being challenged,
-- legal intrigue,
-- defiance,
-- mission creep,
-- friendships challenged,
-- questionable ethics,
-- odd decision-making,
-- poor decision-making,
-- financial questions,
-- general shenanigans,
-- humor,
-- poor communication,
-- misleading advertising,
-- potential fraud,
-- the potential future of fan films,
-- carpet,
-- sushi,
-- and probably ten other things.

Most episodes of "Star Trek" didn't contain that much good stuff.
