Well, with the news that Marvel and Netflix's The Defenders will start filming in August, and the announcement that Daredevil S2 show-runners Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez will be helming the show, the time has come for the show to have it's own thread.
Starring Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Kristen Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Coulter as Luke Cage, Finn Jones as Danny Rand/Iron Fist, and (presumably) Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, The Defenders will be an 8-part "event" mini-series that brings together all of the stars of the Marvel/Netflix shows set in the MCU. According to Charlie Cox, it will be Daredevil that, uhm, assembles the team.
I know that there are some who would prefer a classic Defenders line-up (lookin' at you, @kirk55555 ), but the fact that Dr. Strange and the Hulk are Movie-level characters and with the rights issues inherent with Namor and Silver Surfer, it is sadly, at this point in time, a practical impossibility.
When I first saw The Avengers, one of the things that impressed me was how effortlessly it worked as a sequel to four different movies, and I look forward to something similar here. The final episode of DD S2 set up some potential interaction between the show's supporting casts by placing Foggy Nelson at Jeryn Hogarth's legal firm. Would like to see Malcom? Karen? (Can they leave us hanging for two years with Karen after the bombshell Matt dropped on her?)
So, what are your hopes and expectations for The Defenders? Would you like to see The Punisher or maybe even Hellcat join the team? Should they introduce new heroes (Moon Knight!)? Should it pick up dangling threads from it's parent shows (The Hand, IGH) or be entirely it's own thing with a new story/threat?
Let the discussion begin!
