Another Re-watching DS9 thread (spoilers)

Ok so the rest of series 3:-

Maquis parts 1 & 2 - I enjoyed these as I always liked seeing Dukat and Sisko working together, the introduction of the maquis was well done and it started to show that Sisko can take things a little personally (which we see in much greater depth in the future with the maquis)

The Wire - A nice episode that show just what Garak feels that his life is like living on the station and a great introduction to the Obsidian Order too. I loved the dialogue between Garak and Bashir when it came to all the different explanations as to why he was banished.

Crossover - a MU episode, I never saw the point to the mirror universe episodes they seemed to be a bit of a waste of time (though I guess its good to know that Kirk screwed the human race after his experience there) the fact that mirror Kira seemed attracted to her other self was weird though.

The Collaborator - an ok episode I guess not a favourite or not one I really hate but it was a episode that made Winn Kai meaning we would be in a lot more episodes (ahh!! I don't like her but I guess that was the point)

Tribunal - another lets all give O'Brien some more shit episode, this time him being up against a farcical Cardassian judicial system, seems like a lot of hard work to set him up if they were going to make it so easy to resolve, the Cardassians would have been better off assassinating Boon after he had finished the part he was sent to do.

The Jem'Hadar - ok so not the best episodes in DS9 but it turns out to be one of the most pivotal the introduction of the Jem'Hadar and the Vorta. It was unusual for both Quark and Sisko to be in the same episode as it was not a pairing that was often used, but I always liked the friendship between Nog and Jake and it was good to see them on the runabout trying to warn the station. All in all it was a good way to finish series 2, especially seeing exactly how far the Jem'Hadar were prepared to go for victory.

Something that has just occurred to me while reviewing I seemed to have forgotten all the B stories to these episodes, ~I am not sure if that was because they were forgettable or whether series 2 was not so strong in my memory as I though.

I need to push on and start watching series 3 otherwise I will get left behind.

I think this pays off down the road in may subtle, unexpected ways (no spoilers, of course).

It was interesting that the Jem'Hadar soldier that was present on DS9 didn't recognize Odo as a founder (neither did the Vorta). I know they couldn't give it away then, but you'd think the brainwashed Vorta would have at least noticed.
Yeah, many people complained about this. I don't think they had settled on who Odo's people were until they were writing The Search (Behr's tenure as showrunner hadn't quite yet begun). I think that subsequent episodes show that not every Vorta or Jem'hadar fully, uncritically worshipped the Founders, and could choose to tune them out when necessary.

It will be interesting to see which episodes you feel they weren't.

Now I am trying to remember if the Jem'Hadar actually saw Odo in this episode (I think I remember not), I know the Vorta saw him but they did not have such a devotion programmed into them as the Jem'Hadar did and since this vorta was specifically on a recon mission she was not supposed to flinch.

In The Abandoned, the Jem'hadar does not respond to Odo until he sees Odo shapeshift. I don't think there is some instinctual recognition of who is a Founder. Of course, it would not be prudent to have shapeshifters who are undercover suddenly recognize by Jem'hadar and Vorta.

The Search....

This episode has awesomeness written all over it.

Sisko arrives with the Defiant (DS9 now has a real ship!!), we're going looking for the founders, we get some Martha Hackett (love her), the Odo/Kira bond grows stronger, etc...

We are also introduced to the Founders' leader played beautifully by Salome Jens.

Great continuation from last seasons’ closer and a great start to season 3.

The Jem'Hadar prove again they aren't to be taken lightly. The boarding on the Defiant was awesome but I'll agree with posters above that it wasn't lit well enough and the shaky cam stuff made me think of ST09.

It also is telling just how strong this attraction to the nebula is in Odo. He could have cared less about the attack on the Defiant. Wow, that was alarming!

I loved this exchange and Rene' once again delivers a wonderful performance.

"KIRA: Where are we?
ODO: Approaching the Omarion Nebula.
KIRA: You should have taken us back to the wormhole.
ODO: You didn't object at the time."

lol... did anyone else notice that Kira just gets hotter each season and Jadzia seems to have more and more hair? :-)

This is probably the 5th or 6th time I've seen this episode and it's still exciting.

Easy 4 star episode for me.

The Search PII...

This episode has not be too popular with many...

The only thing I think I might have done differently was let Odo stay with the Founders for a couple episodes. Let him take some time to make his decision.

The experiment was shocking the first time I watched the episode. All I can say for the Garak contributions is I'm sure his presence was the culmination of Sisko/Jadzia's memories/thoughts. There are plenty of things on the station that aren't strapped into the Vorta's experiment.

I also, at this point and time, don't see the problem with these characters thinking sealing the Wormhole is a good option. It would make sense to me. They aren't reacting to sustain a TV show, they are thinking of how to protect the Alpha quadrant.

I also wish Martha could have become a viable reoccurring character.

But that said, the best part of this episode (and this 2 parter) is the Odo/Kira relationship. Just love these two and how they progressed and grown throughout the series.

3.5 stars for me. The end did seem rushed, but that happens all the time in all our trek series.

The House of Quark...

As much as I don't look forward to the "Ferengi" episodes, I do enjoy this one.

Little note of trivia. Mary Kay Adamns is no stranger to performing with rubber all over her face, she also played Na’Toth in BAB5. She excelled in both characters.

Mary Kay and Armin work wonders together. I'm glad we get to see these two working together again in the future.

I didn't want to slap Keiko this time. :D

3.0 stars for me.

Equilibrium...

Very interesting reveal about the politics of the Trill home world.

The "Doctor" wouldn't hesitate to kill to protect their "little secret". Makes one wonder how many others have needlessly died over the years. Although I don’t really see the harm in everyone “knowing”. They still have an initiate process due to the number of Trills available.

I thought this was one of Terry's best performances. It was nice to go to the Trill home world (what's it called anyways.... Trill Prime? :-) ) but it sure would have been nice to see a little more of it.

I too loved Odo stirring the soufflé.

3 stars for me.

Second Skin...

I enjoyed this episode.

Why use Kira to act as Ghemor's daughter? She resembled his real daughter. He is a member of the Central Command. The OO couldn't even turn on their listening devices without his permission. They needed him to reveal himself as a dissident. They knew Kira wouldn't break. Hence this whole plan.

Funniest exchange?

"KIRA: Don't worry, he's on our side. I think. Come on.
GARAK: Major, I don't think I've ever seen you looking so ravishing."

Best line?

"GARAK: Treason, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder."

Wonderful episode. I won't go 4 stars, but a solid 3.5 for me.

Abandoned...

Good story providing the backstory for the Jem'Hadar.

One pretty significant plot hole (I think). Bashir satisfies this Jem'Hadar with triglycerides... I thought later, when Bashir and Obrien are stranded on a planet with a squad of Jem-Hadar with a limited white supply he wasn't able to help them at all.

I also thought it was pretty cheesy that the Jem'Hadar's clothes to include that tube going into his artery were part of his genetics, growing with him. But hey, genetic transporters don't seen to be an issue :-)

I thought Odo's desire to help him was genuine. But I can't side with Sisko not sending him to Star Fleet for testing. Major screw up on Sisko's part here.

2.5 stars for me.

Civil Defense...

I like this episode if for nothing less that we find out that even the Obsidian Order doesn't like/trust Dukat and sees him for what he is. The program turning on him was a very satisfying moment, especially when Garak rubs it in.

"GARAK: Even your own computer programme turns against you. I always knew your shortsightedness would be your downfall." ... lol

It was a fun ride, and while not important to this unimportant story, I enjoyed the Odo/Quark exchanges.

"QUARK: It's a small moon, but it's enough to live on." ... lol

3 stars from me just because Dukat's ego is slapped around quite a bit.

Meridian...

Always a skipper for me.

The best part about this episode was the "B" story. Loved Jeffery Combs and thought Quarks efforts to make some coin at Kira's expense were pretty funny.

This is the worst writing for the Dax character in the entire show. Seven lifetimes of knowledge/wisdom/experience and she lets her loins do the talking? Leave Star Fleet? ... Sisko lets her? .... I'll say again... Sisko lets her?

***multiple face palms***

In “ReLOINed” she can’t control herself either. Didn’t she want to leave Star Fleet then too?

The most enjoyable part of this episode is Odo's face when Kira calls him her lover.

"Yes, sweetheart." ... lol

1 star for me, and that's generous I think. (I love Jeffrey Combs)

Defiant...

I love episodes that reveal incompetency’s in Dukat. He's nothing more than a hack that's came to power via political back-stabbing. What a punk.

Loved it when this happened:

"KORINAS: Commander Sisko, you should be commended. I only wish we had someone with such keen tactical instincts who could have prevented this invasion of our territory."

Best part of the episode.

Now, I agree that the kiss at the end was not good writing for Kira, but it WAS for Tom. Kira was just overwhelmed by Tom's "Rikerness" - as most women were on TNG. :D

Another question I had. What is "Riker's" beef with Obrien? It's been years since I watched TNG.

I think it was smart to leave Eddington out of this episode. Why risk blowing his cover when his services were not needed?

I'm also tiring listening to Dukat S-L-O-W-L-Y pronounce his words and struggle to get sentences out. Makes me want to take an ice-pick to my eye at times. He also walks like he has a broom up his ass.

But overall I enjoyed this episode. Frakes was awesome.

3 stars for me.

Fascination...

I'm one that actually like Lwaxana... I think her moments with Odo are precious. I think she was key in Odo realizing his feelings for Kira.

But this is a skipper for me. Bad actors trying to be funny just doesn't work.

Some funny lines yes, but damn...

Keiko is cringe-worthy once again, and this time Obrien is stupid too.

Having the crew be overcome by something that turns them into sexual predators seems to be just like having to have a "Nazi" episode.

Overused, old, blah - blah...

The words “Peldor joi” make me want to puke every time they are used in the series.

1.5 stars for me, because once again Mrs. Roddenberry graces the screen.

Riker didn't have a 'beef' with O' Brian. Tom knew that if he and Miles got to talking Miles would figure something was off so he pushed him away as soon as possible.

Hated the kiss but then I was never a fan of Riker.

Civil Defense reminded me of Worst Case Scenario. In both episodes it was Cardassians messing around with things and upping the action.
