Spoilers Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - Grading & Discussion

He kills a bunch of Lex's henchmen in two separate engagements. I didn't have a problem with it personally in that it's generally a part of Affleck's Batman being a guy who's been in the game a long time and has started to lose his sense of perspective -- hence Alfred telling him "everything has changed" and the good-men-turning-cruel speech -- especially after the loss of a bunch of his people in Metropolis during the events of Man of Steel. Comics Batman has killed baddies or left them to die on previous occasions; it depends on who's writing him whether or not he refuses to do this and makes speeches about never using guns or killing being bad.

I finally saw it today. Enjoyed it quite a bit. Kind of slow going at the outset and we spend a bit too much time a) watching Bruce Wayne's parents get murdered yet again, and b) watching Superman and Lois Lane mooning over each other -- but they successfully wove together some great classic Batman and Superman material that's never really made it to the big screen before, it was worth seeing for that alone. [I can see why this was maybe disorienting to the more casual, less comic book-nerd-y sort of fan or reviewer, though.] Very smart for the basic premise driving the story being the butcher's bill coming due for the mayhem that goes on in Man of Steel.

Everybody delivered great takes on their characters: Eisenberg's twitchy, sociopathic Lex Luthor I thought was particularly fantastic; Affleck's Batman and Gadot's Wonder Woman were both great; Jeremy Irons as a world-weary, long-suffering Alfred was great fun; Cavill does have the range to deliver a pretty sweet Man of Steel given the opportunity to let loose a little. Some terrific fight sequences, especially the titular throwdown. With a bit of trimming I would have given it an A- or an A, as it is it scores a B+ for me.

Pretty much my take (saw it just a little while ago), down to the letter grade. I was sorry to see Holly Hunter's character killed--could have made an effective recurring political ally (if uneasy) for Superman. I liked Man of Steel a bit better, but I enjoyed this one too. Looking forward to more from these actors.
 
I'll be fine with Batman killing so much in BvS if his whole attitude shift at the end includes a new vow not to kill anymore, to go back to how he operated before twenty years of being Batman sent him over the edge. That'd be a good way to segue into a potential Under the Hood adaptation, too.

A different Jimmy Olsen. And he's not even named in the actual movie. Very easy to retcon.

I think Jesse Eisenberg would of been better as The Riddler than Lex, which should of gone to an older actor like Bryan Cranston.

I, and I think a lot of other people, would like to see Cranston in the next movie as Lex senior, telling Lex Jr to STFU.

If you listen to his review on "Fatman on Batman" ... he agrees with everything you're saying. He knows his limits. He knows he's not comparable to Snyder and could not have made the movie and he's said he'd be too scared to take the task on.

Smith was much more scathing in his live podcast. He seems to hold the fanboy position that the characters have been ruined.

A hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. A silent guardian, a watchful protector.

Sure we're treating them like dogs, but weren't the streets clean in Demolition Man?

Batman has been killing since the Tim Burton movie and has committed a homicide in every film since, except Batman and Robin. And SHOCKINGLY no one has noticed or even cared to point it out. Batman kills is 7 of the 8 films he's been in since 1989, and nobody cares. Superman kills a mass murdering psychopath who was actively trying to incinerate an innocent family, AND EVERYBODY LOSES THEIR MINDS!

Haha different strokes, I guess.

Look at the death count for the MCU heroes and things get even more effed up regarding Superman's use of lethal fore.
 
In some ways Eisenberg seems to be more close to Morrison's new 52 version of Luthor whom he describes as being high energy and over caffeinated. (IIRC--I need to go back and check my Action Comics for the better description)
 
The movie made $33 million more than I predicted over the weekend, and is above what MoS did in its entire run in 10 days..it should hit close to $700 million by the end of today.
