6 reasons Beyond will be the biggest ST movie yet

Hell, most Trek movies from First Contact onwards have tried to emulate TWOK in someway. Think about that, for the past twenty years, Star Trek movies have been aping a movie made in the early 80s. Hopefully now that STID is essentially a remake of TWOK everyone has got that worked out of their system and we can finally move onto something different for the movies.
Oh, on that point I absolutely agree. There is so much outcry over the use of Khan or elements of TWOK in STID but I've seen it in many other Trek films, FC and Nemesis being the more obvious examples. STID just used actual names, and one scene, rather than borrowing themes or plot points.

I also agree that I hope that TWOK has been worked out and there will be a different story explored in Beyond and, well, beyond that. TWOK is a great fil, but please move past it.

I don't think they tried to emulate TWoK with FC. I remember reading years ago they specifically tried to avoid it, I don't see a whole lot of those movies in each other apart from quoting old literature and classic stories which isn't exactly exclusive to TWoK.

Yep.

Star Trek Into Darkness is easily one of my favorite films, and most definitely one of my favorite Star Trek films (it and ST09 almost always tie). While I'm not keen on inflating my expectations, I've just got this feeling Beyond is going to obliterate those rankings on the way up. I could be wrong, but my gut says I'm going to love this film.

I was shocked and disappointed that I didn't see a ST Beyond trailer when I saw BvS this weekend.

What are they waiting for?

I think that they realize that American attention spans are extremely short, so they are waiting until Memorial Day weekend to start the promotional blitz.

Problem with that reasoning is when I saw Batman v Superman, one of the trailers shown is that new Harry Potter spin-off/prequel which isn't out until November.

Different companies have different strategies, I would assume. I just recall the angst that was generated when The Force Awakens didn't have enough trailers or previews or promotions, and then once the taps were opened the complaints then became "they are showing us too much!"

Just out of curiosity--is anyone here planning to skip the movie because the "heavy promo" hasn't started yet? Really don't see the need to worry (unless you have a stake in the company that makes the trailers and get a cut from every trailer they make).

We already know the movie is coming, and of course we will all go see it.

I think the concern is that there isn't enough publicity to generate enthusiasm amongst the general movie-going public.

Paramount's in a tough position promoting this movie. Too soon, fans get antsy and the promotion gets drowned out by other big releases. Wait too long, and fans start getting antsy and wondering if there is something wrong with the movie, which has a chance to rub off on the general public.

No, but many sounded like they'd skip it based on the last teaser trailer. :D

You'd think they would want to right that ship.

Sadly these days Star Trek does not have the cultural importance of SW or Harry Potter. Promoting heavily this early would just be money wasted, as people would just forget it or get sick of it.
I think the best thing to do (and probably what they are planning) is hold off promoting until the last month, then make a heavy push to generate a surge of enthusiasm that peaks on opening day.

But BvS is Warner Bros. and the Harry Potter is Warner Bros., too, so it's probably not that odd that Warner is using its biggest summer movie to hype its biggest fall movie . . ...

Great question. Maybe all of us Trek fans have a little streak of insecurity running through us because we know we aren't even close to the biggest thing in Sci-Fi/fantasy anymore?

And you know this, how?
Down, Shaka. Down.

1 - When he says "I have this feeling," he's not making a claim of certain inside knowledge which must not be allowed to pass unchallenged. He doesn't know; he's just said he has a hunch. If you're genuinely interested in learning why he thought that, then surely you must be able to think of a less belligerent way to raise the question?
2 - That post was from more than two weeks ago. I believe I've asked you before not to go digging up older posts for the sole purpose of getting in someone's face about an offhand opinion they've expressed.
