Will You Pay for Star Trek?

Will You Pay for CBS All Access to Watch Star Trek?

I always make a concerted effort to keep my posts at a Family Friendly rating, sir.

After all, even Dixon Hill's secretary Madeline was limited by the show, on how often she could refer to him as "Dix."

Of course $6 a month is affordable. The paying, in and of itself, is not the problem. It's WHO you pay, that is the real issue what I can see.

The problem is having to get yet another external account to watch one series. Why would I want to do that? I already have an account with Apple/iTunes, and it's obvious Series VI will eventually find its way there. So that, to me anyway, is the no-brainer.

And as has already been pointed out, when you get Series VI with an iTunes season pass, you pay a ONE-time fee, and you get to keep the episodes forever. I'm just going to hazard a guess that if you stop subscribing to CBS All Access, you can no longer watch the show...

To Paraphrase Beldar Conehead.."What choice do I have? It is as if CBS has grabbed me by the base of my snarglies!"

Yeah, I'll pay, and record each..

yes I would, dont know how the new series will be available in Australia but I would paid to watch trek.
Hopefully it will be on free-to-air and not a pay channel. Australians have to pay a fair bit more than the "outrageous" US$6 CBSAA is demanding for such services. And if that's the case I'll wait for the home video release.

To me, this is an asinine argument.

I've spent thousands of dollars in my life on convention tickets, autographs, posters, props, books, comics, models, T shirts, DVDs, B-ray sets, movie tickets, action figures, toys, video games etc. I have indulged in my love all things Trek through my collecting and active participation.

I mean, it's easily tens of THOUSANDS of dollars.

It would make no sense for me not to spend $6 / month to watch a new Trek series- which is the ultimate indulgence for a fan.

If I try it and don't like it, I'll simply unsubscribe.

..and the BS meter keeps rising...

Not really. I have no doubt I'll pay for Star Trek. But there are things that could happen between now and then that would turn me off. I wasn't exactly thrilled with the hiring of Roddenberry. While not a deal breaker, it doesn't really seem to add anything to the new show.

When the new series was first announced, I would have said no. Now that they've brought in the kind of talent that inspires some real potential greatness within its DNA, I've changed my mind and voted yes. It's going to be an interesting ride...

Oh, no, I was referring to Nick Meyer, actually. :)

Roddy-boy can hold on to his daddy's title of "guy who sits stewing in a corner while the show uses his name to add its legitimacy", a.k.a. "Executive Consultant".

In fact, I find it kind of distasteful how Rod, for the most part of his life, seemed to have ostensibly shunned Gene and Star Trek as a whole, and now that he's the only one left to exploit...er...carry on his family name and its association with the franchise, he's "stepped up" to fill that role. In the end, it certainly appears to be mostly all about the $$$ for him. It's a free meal ticket that he seems to have latched on to quite thoroughly.

The Roddenberry announcement struck me as odd. He doesn't seem to have really done much in the industry. Other than the name "Roddenberry", I'm not entirely sure what he brings to the table.

No. I don't want reward CBS for hijacking the Star Trek franchise to ram their ill-fated streaming service down our throats.

So don't! Like I keep saying - probably I've said it too much, but it bears repeating - it's obvious that the new series will, at some point, make it to iTunes and other services. If you don't want to reward CBS, then wait till that happens!
