Agents of SHIELD: Season 3 - Discussion (SPOILERS LIKELY)

When it passed over Ward's dying eyes, the smoother tentacle form split along the center but the pores underneath didn't look like suckers, so something snake like that opens to reveal parasitic openings?

how could the President choose this guy to be his representative to foreign powers on anything? It's like he didn't have the slightest filter between his brain and his mouth.
Not to get all political, but we're threatening to elect somebody like that to the presidency itself in November....

Black Panther and the Wakanda are going to play a big role in the not too distant future (Wakanda was mentioned in Age of Ultron as the only location that had vibranium, and a vial was worth "billions"). I don't think it was that random.
Was that guy Wakandan?

My assumption was that he was South African given that last we heard, Wakanda was still an isolationist nation.
Mind you, it was a bit of an odd group of countries. US, China & Russia makes sense as does Japan and what I'm assuming is South Africa. Australia though seems like a bit of an odd one when there's no western European country in the room, nor a South American or Middle East representative.
You'd think it'd be either all permanent UNSC/World Council countries, or all secondary/tertiary powers rather than this skewed mix.

I haven't seen the latest ep, but did anyone else find it weird that the known head of SHIELD could just waltz into a HYDRA phone booth station and not be attacked on sight?!

I know they said people wouldn't forget about what Hydra did, but it's been years and I think once people realized that this is a new S.H.I.E.L.D. that has separated itself from the Hydra elements they would accept them.

"HYDRA always comes back." -John Garrett

Whoa! That was gross. :ack: :rommie:

Good episode, though. It's good to have Talbot back. I love the dynamic between him and Coulson. When he betrayed Coulson, I thought he had some plan to disrupt the vote or something, so I was disappointed that he was being coerced by Malick. It doesn't seem like him to just go along naively with something like that and then cry when Malick broke the terms. I hope he's right about Creel, though. It would be nice to see somebody reformed and to have Talbot responsible for it.

I got a kick out of Hunter sneaking in the weapons. Bobbie says, "I love you," and May says, "I hate you a little less."

This whole episode had a cool Mission: Impossible vibe. :mallory:

Agreed
Was that guy Wakandan?
They never said but one can assume he's probably connected to them in some way.

I'm aware of Wakanda being isolationists but that representative could of easily been an ambassador between Wakanda and another African nation speaking on behalf of the Wakandans. The thing is, Africa has and will be an important place in the MCU. Having an African representative there isn't that wild of a thing.

It wasn't an armed outpost, just a contact point. The guy at the desk may have been a low-level functionary whose only real knowledge of Hydra was that they were some guys who paid him well to let people into the back room when they gave the right password and left their metal objects with him. After all, the less he knows, the less he can reveal if the authorities arrest him (an increased risk for someone whose job is to stay in one place as a point of contact with the organization).

I didn't say that it was, just that South Africa would have made more sense since they're the bigger international players. Having an isolationist nation represent a continent just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. We don't know what kind of relations Wakanda has with other African nations but given their isolationism it's probably not good and having them speak for sub-saharan Africa might be like North Korea speaking for all of Asia.

Don't look at real world political realities, after all we were in Taiwan and not the People's Republic

I think the countries represented in the conference weren't there because they were the most powerful, but because they were the ones willing to a) face the problem and b) consider working with other nations to resolve it. Other, more prominent countries may still have been in official denial about the whole thing or intended to resolve it in their own way without needing outside help.

Or in other words will be used in a future story. :cardie: I am kind of surprised in hindsight thinking back on Transformers, Pacific Rim and other big productions having a rumored Chinese connection as a money grab that it was Taiwan.

Well, we have seen Chinese connections in movies like Iron Man 3, but I doubt China is funding the TV show.

One thing I really liked is that every time the show shifted to the 'Ward-Thing' he had more TVs. He stared off in a room with a single monitor, then we see him with several more on each side of it, then later he has a wall of monitors, each displaying different things. After the monitor binge we see him with stacks of books. Ward-Thing seems to be trying to get as complete a grasp of how the world currently operates and can perceive information from multiple sources simultaneously. This information gathering is more important to him than regaining his health.
Later when he has decided on a course of action and eats the five normal humans to get his body ready, the monitors show only static.

I wonder how many "entities" are in there, formulating plans while holding a conversation, reading books at a glance, watching eight different screens all at the same time.

Would make any assault on it very difficult, if they could track every assailant and counter them at once.
