As foundations and secular charities have proliferated and grown in scope, the personal touch, the "I'm helping someone in a direct way" has slowly been lost. When we as humans give, we often yearn for that direct connection, so giving a buck to the Red Cross may be easy, but it isn't all that fulfilling.

Yes, that is true. After Katrina hit, instead of donating to a charity, I paypalled $100 to an artist friend of mine that was going down to help her daughter, and just asked her to help people with it. She spent it on groceries for the daughter's church which was feeding people. It went right into people's tummies within a few days. I felt better about that than the Red Cross, for example.

I've never been to a Trek con, but might be tempted if AP ever decides to show his face in good old Blighty.
Hopefully he'll get our humour :)

Now Mr. Peters states he can't use pledged funds for his trip to a Star Trek convention? Since he HAS used pledged funds for travel/hotel/admission to such conventions in the past, I wonder what changed? Does he now suddenly/finally realize lawyers can actually read Facebook/Twitter and other things on the internet too? Wow - talk about being slow...:ack::rofl:;)
