The attorney is pro bono, free, but they are still taking donations on their website and some member has been talking about a legal fund, but Indie and Kickstarter don't do legal crowdsourcing neither does Go Fund Me from what I understand.
As has been discussed here (and elsewhere), there are still costs Axanar and Peters could be responsible for, despite having pro bono representation. "Pro bono" does not mean entirely "free."
