Their time is. But the Axanar folks still have to cover the costs they incur. So, not exactly "free".
The rent is going to gobble up most of what is left of the last Indiegogo fundraiser. They netted an estimated $519,000 from that campaign. The rent plus utilities is roughly $15,000/mth which is $180,000/yr. They have two years left on the lease. $180,000 x 2 = $360,000. So after a couple years paying rent & utilities alone, they would only have about $160,000 to pay for everything else to make a movie - sets, costumes, salaries, craft services, location shooting, convention travel, etc etc.
Oh and paying someone to mail out 10,000 perk packages. Not sure if there is too much enthusiasm for fullfillment right now.

I seem to recall a year was paid in advance (can't recall where I saw that information, though). Either way, though, rent is a big line item.
Hasn't it been about a year? It must be coming due. In the last year they filmed 3 mins of dull-talk-y-talk.
But it's a great place to store props.Outdoors. So that studio has been nothing but a money sucking loss for Axanar and its donors.

According to AP no donor money has been used to make a profit.
What would land closer to home is a Chtorr book. he's really not doing anything with that.
To summarize the World Tour rules of the road then, Axanar-style: No one is really using that Social Security fund. No one is really using that house while the owners are on vacation. No one is really using that parked car. No one is really wearing that collectible costume in the display. No one is really using that space between those ears. World Tour budget solved. Travelling exhibit problem solved. Culling audience of haters solved.

Yes that was paid in advance for 2015. We are now well into the second year of rent chewing through donor money. Don't know if Alec was required to pay another year's rent up front (an almost unheard of practice, and likely due to his prior business bankruptcy), or if he is paying month to month.

Since they can't shoot Axanar right now. What is stoping Alec from renting the stages out to another production? It going to be a while before an actual trial, discovery alone will take a long time. In the mean time, what is to stop Alec from making money renting the studio? I don't see anything legally right now to prevent that.
