He's 70. For his age, he looks fantastic. Better than most other 70-year-olds I'd say.Oh man, he looks old in that video. Those cigar smoking. He needs to stop it.

I like Clint Eastwood, but I bet his completion insurance has gone up.Yeah, someone revoke Clint Eastwood's DGA card, for instance. Too risky.
Kinda makes the point about age. We all know the truth. If I look that good when I'm 70, I'll be ecstatic. Of course, I'll be pretty ecstatic if I'm even alive at 70.
Not really. I think the studios love having Scott or Eastwood on the payroll. They don't care what you think you know.I like Clint Eastwood, but I bet his completion insurance has gone up.
Similarly, I hope Ridley Scott's plans for the Alien films get completed - by him. I don't want him out because he's old. I want him in as long as possible. But I still know the risk.

My logic is, there will be more to hiring them than their age. There are probably younger directors who are a greater risks for various reasons. If they are healthy enough, why not?By your logic, loving to have them on the payroll makes them immortal. I know they're not immortal. That's fine if they don't care. Doesn't change the greater risk of death at their ages. If that is offensive, take it up with nature.
That's all true. And there are younger directors (and writers) who can't hold a candle to older talent. So sure, why not. The old guys are still gonna die sooner by all expectations than later, and the chances of going for seven years, assuming it works out, are less than the younger hacks. I wouldn't expect Meyer to stay the entire series even if still living. My logic is, there will be more to hiring them than their age. The strongest voices not that long ago said:
1) Trek suffered too much franchise fatigue. Easier to just surf off the old properties.
2) Sci-fi is too expensive to risk a show. Better to stick to sitcoms and reality TV.
3) CBS would at least wait for the movie franchise to be over.
4) They'd never bring anyone back with prime-trek ties.
The last mystery will be what continuity they'll use.
Cynicism about by-the-numbers Hollywood decisions might be the norm but it's exceptions like this that make following showbiz interesting.
How cool would it be to get Jonathan Frakes to direct an episode or two?
He was pushing hard for Star Trek Beyond.
Actually, I would rather new directors get a chance to helm episodes, anything to get away from the constant nepotism Berman did so much of. I get it, it's a geek thing to see the credits of Frakes, Burton, Dawson, McNeil, Carson, and whoever in the Berman well, but I'd rather someone who hasn't done TV streaming before or new talent. How cool would it be to get Jonathan Frakes to direct an episode or two?

No way Riker, ranked as Admiral, would not attempt to get the commission of the current starship Enterprise.Admiral Riker, with his occasional flagship the U.S.S Titan
I think they're getting at the tone of the movie, combined with the 'ripped from political headlines' themes. He says that VI is the "jumping off" point for the series or something very close...let me find the article again so I can link it.
EDIT: Here it is...

It'd only be for one or two episodes out of many. It's not like he's taking the spot of a Stanley Kubrick or Quentin Tarantino.Actually, I would rather new directors get a chance to helm episodes, anything to get away from the constant nepotism Berman did so much of.
