The X-Files : Season X (Spoilers!)

Great thoughts Stovie!!

Thanks, Yanks!

Yes, but this episode also indicated that it wasn't just the small pox vaccine. It was ALL vaccines. I was getting a weird anti-vaxxer vibe from it too.

After all, they stopped administering small pox vaccines decades ago. I've certainly never had one.

I can't check for sure right now, but didn't Scully say something about the small pox vaccines of the fifties and onwards insert something that altered human DNA in a fundamental way and pass that alteration down to offspring?

If so, you wouldn't need the shot to get the alteration so long as your parents or grandparents received it. Again, I may be misrembering.

As for the other vaccines being mentioned, I do remember that they described the Spartan virus as being "AIDS without HIV" and that vaccines (like the one the soldier received for anthrax shown to Scully and Einstein at the hospital) were suddenly developing into active & thriving strains of whatever disease they meant to inoculate against, with the host's immune system shutting down.

I can see how that idea would give off an "anti-vaxxer vibe" in the same manner "Musings of a Cigarette-Smoking Man" could give off a JFK conspiracy vibe, but I don't think the writers of "MSII" or "MoaCSM" intended to give credibility to either of these beliefs with the far-fetched elements in their episodes.

I think it goes without question that Scully will save humanity particularly assuming they return with more episodes. If not then who else would they have to interact with if the rest of the population is wiped out? So the question is what happens to the main characters?

Scully??? Scully is going to save humanity??? She mentioned her son, who she given to adoption, could be the person to help Mulder but she has no clue where he could be. Her even able to accomplish such a feat would be something I would loathed in a JJ Abrams' film.

The only way to save humanity is to contain whoever is infected and put them on an island like Lepers and wait it out.

But if that is the final episode? That's fine by me. I didn't think these new shows were any good. I wish they were a little better but if it happens to return, I'll give it a look. Sucks it ended like that.

I ended up plowing through the final four episodes last night since I wasn't able to watch them as they aired. Ultimately, I enjoyed it. It wasn't perfect, but I wasn't expecting it to be. I was surprised by "Home Again" and the way they brought back Mrs. Scully just to kill her off. I thought it was weird that they "introduced" Charlie Scully, though I do seem to remember something about Dana having a second brother.

I thought the finale was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the Scully/Einstein team-up in the hospital.

I think, though, it probably would have been better if there had been a more solid story arc throughout the six episodes. And with every single episode bringing up William, I was very surprised that he didn't turn up in the end (though I have strong suspicions that he's onboard that spacecraft).

If they bring it back again, which I think they will, I think they definitely need a more definite ending. Even if they want to eventually move forward with new cast members, Mulder and Scully and the alien story need to be wrapped up for good.

Charlie attended their father's funeral in "Beyond the Sea" and sent the Scully family presents in "Christmas Carol." I think he may also have appeared as a child in one of Scully's flashbacks or a dream sequence, but I'm not positive.

If I remember correctly, he was always sort of a half-acknowledged and half-remembered character. Sometimes they referenced him and other times, Scully and her family talked like she only had one brother. Basically he's the Chuck Cunningham of the X-Files universe.

Gotcha. I haven't seen "Beyond the Sea" in ages, so I don't remember it too well. Usually when I rewatch the show I tend to skip a lot of the early stuff and start with "Duane Barry."

In terms of things changing, in 10 seasons and 20 years of a series, the conspiracy plot got so convoluted I don't think it really mattered if things changed. I mean we got alien abductions, government tests, black oil, bees, and now Alien DNA/Viruses wiping out the entire human race other than the chosen few. It's so very hard to keep track of everything I decided not to try. Still, the third episode was very classic X-Files, which made this 6 episode event worth it in the long run.

I was looking through the descriptions of the Season 10 comic issues, and I hate to say it, but those stories actually sounded a lot more interesting than what we got in the show.

The Season 10 series was really well done, but Season 11 went a bit off the rails. Still, they're an interesting alternative take on what came after the end of X-Files: I Want to Believe.

*Massive Spoilers* in these:

The Season 10 stories serviced the season 8 & 9 story arc nicely, gave us some nice sequels to former episodes, resurrected the Lone Gunmen in a cool way, and delivered a healthy dose of fan wank all around.

It also presented a strange Doggett & Reyes story where they were held captive for a really LONG time and appeared to suffer PTSD from it, but then they just vanished from the book.:shrug:Still miles better than what we got from Reyes in the revival, for whatever that's worth.

They kept CSM dead from events in "The Truth" but cloned the hell out of him. Gibson Praise returns in a big, big way.

And now, they've turned Gibson into an ultra-powerful super villain puppet-master. Imagine Kilgrave from Jessica Jones multiplied by a 1000.

Their sequel story to the episode "Home" was interesting, if a little half-baked.

In the first issue of the Season 11 finale three-parter, they depict a post-apocalyptic near-future where a final showdown between Mulder and Praise will presumably occur. My guess is they'll go the Fringe season 5 route and timey-wimey the entire Season 10 & 11 comic continuity out of existence, thus making way for the new X-Files ongoing comic (launching in April) and to better match the new canon of the revival.

But I'm just speculating.

Holy crap!! A must read!!

Everything Mulder was told in 'My Struggle, Part I' was a lie. Colonization has begun. Tad O'Malley is a Syndicate Agent. The Old Man is a fraud. Cancer Man is an impostor. Scully is the new Cassandra Spender and everything was orchestrated to get her to create a vaccine using her alien DNA. William is the final key to creating the hybrid slave race, just as was prophesied. Scully will use his stem cells to perfect the vaccine. Everything is proceeding exactly as was first laid out in Season One with 'The Erlenmeyer Flask'.

Whoa. ^ That was interesting.

I'm just going to post this here:

I like Weird Al, but if you don't just watch the second half of the video, it's only about 2:22 total.

Nice theory. From the first episode this season, I knew that the story had to be more complex. The X-Files was/is never a series to just lay out the story for the viewers. I really enjoyed this season. I think that they managed to catch just about every type of show from the original series in just six episodes and I don't think the quality was much different from most of the original series. We need to remember that back in the nineties, no one was doing a series like this and it was original and cutting edge. I think that those who were disappointed may have just had their expectations at too high a level.

I'm really not sure how I feel about "My Struggle III". Once again they immediately resolve a fake-out cliffhanger by having USAF jets shoot down the UFO. Who was in there? What was it there for? Who knows!

Also, I'm really not sure about using time travel to go back to 2012 and basically wipe out the last four years of existence. I mean, it's not like we SAW those four years so not they're wiping out aired episodes (aside from this mini-series), but it feels a lot bigger and more out there than anything before. I know they did time travel in that one Titanic-esque episode in ?Season Six? but this resetting the entire planet.

I am glad to see actual aliens and Mulder restoring his faith though. And I always though the Black Oil and the Faceless Rebels were cool. I really like the design of the Rebel Battleships, but I really wanted to see more of that UFO vs. UFO fight over the skies of D.C. That was awesome! Plus, there's NO WAY they cover that up. It's official. The world knows aliens exist. I can't wait to see how the show deals with this now.

An interested read, but when you have to go through that many hoops just to make logical sense of the story, maybe the story isn't that sound to begin with. I seriously doubt Carter thought all of this out.

Typical X-Files.

It seems many don't have any faith in Mr. Carter.

This gentleman justified his observations very well I thought.

Carter has had a LONG time to figure this out.

That is interesting, and seems similar to some of the basic ideas I was thinking of. I haven't seen any of the Jeffrey Spender stuff so that wasn't part of it for me, but the basic idea of O'Malley being a plant, and the old man being a fake were pretty much what I was thinking. I did remember all of virus stuff from the early seasons, so I was wondering if this was actually all part of that.
