Every time I see porthos on screen I think, yep, that's exactly how a dog looks, behaves, and what not. Just such a natural in the role if you ask me... Nothing seems forced and I really thin porthos's on screen presence forced the other actors to realize that they had to get serious and step up themselves. Porthos fit comfortably into the role like a glove and may be a one note actor but the skill and depth at which a dog in space was portrayed is an experience that is unparalled in the rest of trek. Where else is there such an honest role? I mean the dog was oblivious!

Porthos is named after a character from a book by Alexandre Dumas, who was a Frenchman just like Jean-Luc Picard!

Dumas sounds like dumbass which is a pejorative term used to lampoon one's enemies.
Mine is the bit of gravel on the floor in engineering.
