CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

The Garth episode war airing on German SyFy earlier. I hadn't seen it in ages so after watching it again, I now have two theories regarding Peters:

1) It is just one big piece of performance art by him, living his "role".

2) To compensate for his total lack of acting abilities he has inserted himself so deep into the role of Garth of Izar, that he has "turned into" Garth of Izar.

It's just uncanny how much his persona resembles the one of "his" role: delusional, believes himself the ruler of the Galaxy (or of Star Trek in Peters case), has followers that don't question him, is willing to sacrifice people for his gain etc.

In either case I think Daniel Day Lewis would take one look and say, "Dude, too Method." :D

I have an observation/question...

Robert Meyer Burnett has said he wants Axanar to be his calling card to the industry. That he wants to show Hollywood that he can make a $100 million dollar movie for a million. Which is all great.

But how many Trek directors have went on from Star Trek to direct $100 million dollar science fiction films?

Using an unauthorized movie that in turn is made based on a stolen IP doesn't seem wise. One might think this would close doors to him.

And even if that did happen with any other director (and assuming everything we know EXCEPT the lawsuit happened - how is:

"Hey, here's a wholly illegal unlicensed film I made; where after the studio wouldn't even talk to us about a license (because if we were able to raise the money required we might as well already be a Hollywood studio); and told us in person they weren't happy about the project - I went ahead and made the film anyway..."

A good calling card for any Hollywood studio. Hell, I would want a producer/director who thought is was okay to use ANY unlicensed material working on a film my studio was investing in because I wouldn't want to worry about the possible legal ramifications that would cut or nullify any return on investment/profit.

No if he could make a good/profitable/popular film 100% legally for one million; that had a professional look, yeah, he MIGHT have a studio rep or two interested, but EVEN IF 'Axanar' had been completed on schedule and released to YouTube (with some DVDs to Backers, et al.); even the studio heads know that what you can get away with on an independent production, you CAN'T do it that way 'in the system' - and further, the Hollywood system has many issues an independent director might not be able to handle well (see the 'Project Greenlight series for examples.)

So, yeah, in the end, Mr. Burnett comes across just as delusional as Mr. peters as to what 'Axanar' could do for his career (IMO).

I find it interesting that a few of the larger FB Star Trek fan groups have also banned individuals for not toeing the Axanar line. So much for a film that was supposed to unify the fan base. :)

In their eyes it did. Anyone that isn't pro-Axanar obviously isn't a Star Trek fan.

In my opinion, Alec is keeping most of them in the fold because he hopes to keep taking their money when he begins his new endeavour - opening a sushi restaurant - but I think he is conflating their enthusiasm with the depth of their pockets and will be seriously disappointed when they don't contribute anything but words to Dorsalworx - Costumery and Fresh Seafood™.
