Those true believers are a bit detached from reality.

This might be my favorite Alec post from that old thread: http://www.trekbbs.com/threads/official-star-trek.169732/#post-6120673

Except when it's what you think and do against the rights holder's wishes, right Alec?

This ones a winner too, some may appreciate the irony

You are a fan film, period. You have ZERO chance to have CBS ever pick your show up. And by claiming you do, you put all fan films in jeopardy by bringing the watchful eye of CBS legal upon us all.

I don't want to bring up any old wounds, but does anyone care to summarize what got Alec banned from TrekBBS?

Alec ("Loken") was banned for the same kind of postings he makes on other boards and other FB pages. As time wore on, they seemed to get more and more extreme and crazily indignant. No amount of policing would get him to toe the board's Guidelines. That's the gist. Past is prologue.

(Also, a year or so later, he resurfaced under a different username, extolling the virtues of the Axanar production he had heard about. That user got the boot, too.)

Methinks this type of behavior is why only Alec's been sued at this point. CBS told him to watch out and he ignored it.

I don't know what he did here, but on a Games Workshop/reddit thread from four years ago (that popped up when searching something entirely unrelated, oddly enough) he threatened someone with physical violence for not believing him about something. "I'm 51 and I could kick your ass" was I believe his actual quote. He was subsequently banned from that thread by a moderator.

He also claimed to have recently sold his business for 16 million dollars.

Has anyone discussed when TNG used Sherlock Holmes IP without permission and they got sued? I can't go through every page of this long thread.

Yeah, CBS used the parody defense and it worked. But then they made a follow-up episode using the characters and paid a licensing fee to do so. I guess CBS felt playing defensive was not the way to go and decided to leave no room for ligation since the shows success had increased exponentially.

Course, now, because the courts told the Doyle essay to go fuck themselves, most of the Holmes canon, including Holmes himself, is in the public domain.

No coverage this week as there was no real news. It was more of a Bryan Fuller news week. Next week, it'll be the day before the answer is due, so there might be something. Stay tuned and, as always, thank you for your kind support. :)

I linked the FB page to another forum back in January. People in the Axanar Fan Group were wondering about these folks and what their motivations were. Probably so they could send them a C&D lol.

Performance art. Definitely performance art. :D

I gotta say, I love Terry's response in that thread I linked:

Yeah, they're an obvious attempt to troll, but will be dealt with (not that they'll have any choice in the matter) soon enough. In the meantime I'm not concerned with anything that person is doing -- they would seem to know what lines they can and cannot cross for the moment until our nuke is delivered. =P

It's great on so many levels.

Not least of which is the spirit which 100% got them to where they are -- an amusing and very general attempt at satire containing no more than the name Axanar "will be dealt with.. soon enough.. [when] our nuke is delivered". The arrogance would nonplus a Klingon warbird crew into silence... while competing visions of irony temporarily brainfreeze the first guffaw.
