Not that I relish the part of playing devil's advocate (especially for Peters of all people), how much of the "I'll sue" is just talk? Lord knows even rational people say crazy things in heat of internet conversations. And speaking of the sue list - how many of these were specifically known to be Peters and not just assumed to be? The man himself certainly has far more faults than not, but as another user's signature states (via Picard): "let's be damned for who we really are."
Appreciate you playing devil's advocate. A necessary council. Thanks. So here's my journey to your post....
Lawsuit appears, I'm a donor/supporter, in the dark re anything leading up to Dec 30. Quickly jumped in gear to try to get up to speed to support this production somehow! Didn't even know about the production website at that point. Only the original FAQ which had been totally satisfactory to me: Star Trek Axanar, fan film, everyone will be volunteers. So I'm in!! Now it's being sued by CBS/Par?? Gotta help them!
Started back tracking for info. Found a verifiable quote from the production. My thought was they just need to not say things like this. So easy to misinterpret. Heard from a credible source the production asks us to support it by not say anything non-factual about CBS/Par. I'm totally in!! No talking smack! What else?!
Then I found pictures of this coffee packaging on the production website and said they just Have to take this down. This 'looks bad' and is being misinterpreted!!!
Saw discussion abt a deal w Gerrold, discovered questions about a studio. I kept trying to find verifiable info on this, which then when found, opened a whole list of questions to me; wait a minute, what's going on here?
Eventually finding enough information taken directly from the production's website no less, for me to sit me back and call bs on the whole thing. A very very sad moment for me.
Now I was engaged to find out exactly what is going on. Back tracking here to read the production members talking.
Just making notes of things, unverified by me yet, of before this production things that happened. Which I look at as rumors.
And S.M.Oliva reported here he had received a credible threat, took his blog down, wished he'd never heard of this production, disappeared. With me thinking 'I read that blog. Nothing untoward in it. WTH?'
Lots of rumors of this and that. Lots of smack talk on both sides of the issue. Lots of rumors abt threat for censure using threat of lawsuit. Rumor, not verifiable by me.
Then.... this last episode of G & T reported a threat of lawsuit, screen capped, saved, in hand. Not rumor.
I posted that info here. A reply was "Peters threatens lawsuits to every one." My thought was maybe, maybe just a sweeping statement. So I ask this Board: "But, what do we 'know'? How many have actually said they received one?"
Then I remembered
The blogger. Possibly credible
Then I remembered
Oliva. And
his final post. Credible, possible lawsuit threat
G & T. Credible
And Squiggy and the FB thing. Credible, with Squiggy being also doxxed.
And this now added:
"He threatened to sue Vic for slander last year prompting director Christian Gossett, who had recently parted ways with Alec and Axanar, to question Alec publicly on Facebook about whether he was planning to use donor money to fund that lawsuit." Verifiable on FB.
I am glad you stepped up as devil's advocate. How many on this list are known to be Peters is an important question. Which is the direction I was going when I made the first post "But what do we 'know'?" To clear away blanket and sweeping generalities like "he threatens lawsuits to everyone". So what I see is two on this list have approachable people on this Board. The blogger I linked is approachable I would think. The Vic/Christian Gossett is verifiable on that FB page I would guess.
Oliva is unverifiable, unapproachable. Though the two links of his I post I've included in the list are eyebrow raising to me.
Thank you for being devil's advocate!
