Batman, Liberace and Treylane???

I remember first seeing the episode in the early 70s and while knowing it wasn't Liberace, I definitely thought of him seeing Treylane, especially with the piano. I was going to say and I thought all this time, it was Liberace's brother, George or maybe Tiny Tim. Those references are probably over the head of the younger folks here. :)

For some reason I have no memory whatsoever of the real Liberace. I only remember Andrew Robinson playing him.

That said, I thought Trelane was a total laugh riot. I love the way he said "Are you challenging me to a DUEL?!?" with this childlike enthusiasm.

Perhaps "stunt" was the incorrect term. A fairer one would be "casting aimed at improving the ratings". A good example is that they blew almost their entire casting budget on Frank Gorshin because having him the cast would gurantee coverage from the press, which it did.
Derp, totally forgot about Gorshin.

Perhaps a stretch, but Michael Dunn, who certainly was still well known at that time as a distinctive and very talented genre performer.

Yes! Another good example. Grab an established star from another show. We also had Catwoman and Batgirl in the third season.

There was (another) Catwoman in the second season.

So the third season guest stars were more 'distinct' than the preceding seasons? It might be worthwhile to see (if possible) whether more money was spent on guest stars during the third season.

First post here. :)

Yes, I noticed the flamboyant similarity between Liberace and Treylane long ago. Even my late father noted it.

At least Treylane didn't summon his brother George. ;)

Hi everyone.

I was watching an episode of Batman '66 last night and Liberace of all people had dual rolls as the guest villain(s) and I couldn't help but think of William Campbell's portrayal of Treylane as I watched Liberace in his house coat at the piano.

Take a look at it if you are able. I defy you not to think of Treylane. I wonder if Mr Campbell based the flamboyant side of Treylane on Liberace or whether it's just a coincidence or it's just me.
Coincidence. Campbell's portrayal of a child-God was brilliant because I thought, when originally seeing the episode, Treylane was a homicidal maniac and was a dangerous enemy Kirk has ever faced. After the reveal I saw the character differently, and was relieved. Liberace's character in Batman was quite sinister and more of departure to his normal self. I must say after reading your thread, and thinking of Treylane's look; he would pass as Liberace's brother.

Are you challenging me to a duel as said in the definitive Liberace would be very funny indeed!

Does anyone have any photos/vidcaps of Liberace-on-Batman so they could be posted for comparison? Or can someone locate a video clip?
