"The Holiest Thing" Released

Just watched it. Enjoyed it overall. The inbetween TOS and TMP engines look good
TNG era Scotty didn't make a lot of sense since the rest of the episode didn't focus on Scotty
Kirk's hair in the end scene with Carol was horrible looking though

Whereas I think it's Old Scotty bullshitting the whole thing to the cute young Ensign. Since he wasn't there for most of it, he can't possibly have known what went on.

Not certain whether Brian will grow into the role. How many more episodes does James intend to make?
Many, many more I hope! And am I the only one who recognizing how much growth Brian demonstrates in this episode, in contrast to the early Kirk with bad hair we see in the last scene? This is the episode that made me really respect Brian as Kirk.

Really, what I'd like to know is why that scene wasn't re-shot in the same style as the rest of the episode. Carol's hair and make-up were equally strange-looking to Kirk's hair and it was rather jarring.

Without getting into specifics, we couldn't bring Mohammed to the mountain; we had to take the mountain to Mohammed. Brian and Jacy did not fly to Ticonderoga for these pickup shots--instead, we grabbed static plates of the sets in Ticonderoga, and had the actors do this scene against a green screen. I'm confident everyone did the best they could to match this new footage against existing footage. (I don't know what challenges the L.A. team faced in getting this scene; I wasn't there.)

Hmm, I figured there would be some good reason for it. I can totally understand the delay in releasing this ep if this is the sort of thing that needed to be done. Thanks for the info. I still think it's only a minor blemish on an otherwise very enjoyable episode.

Greg do you know how many more episodes James intended to make?
Ronald, I think we want to try to make as many as we can and eventually the last episode whenever that would eventually happen they "the crew" would all go their separate ways: Spock to Kohlinar, McCoy to his private practice and Kirk as a Rear Admiral

All right, I can see that happening.

First post! I enjoyed this and loved the near to lost era melarky, just a shame I don't think any more of this era is planned? Pity really, quite un-explored.

Hello by the way :)

I really enjoyed the episode. The VFX was top notch and the acting was solid. It was better than I was expecting.

There are a few issues in this thread I would like to give my answer to. First, the episode now has captions/subtitles (although not all are ready yet).
The episode can be viewed online and downloaded from the website I run, with the new short link: http://www.stnv.de/tht

Others have commented on the canon issues of David being born too late for his age on the movie and the Ferengi appearing before the "first contact" in TNG.
I have been researching those issues in depth and believe I have come up with answers that resolves both issues very well. Rather than repeating my article here, please read it on the website here: http://www.stnv.de/thtcanon

I hope this helps...

David being born in 2270 is a problem as I see the latest STII takes place is around 2286-88. But we can also explain this entire episode as Scotty telling it from years later and getting his years crossed. I've got more problems with the ep other than continuity though.

Not at all. If you read my article, his work with protomatter aged him faster so that he appears to be about 25 when we see him in the movie. The same effect that aged Spock to a much higher age during that movie. This allows David to be born in late 2270 without breaking canon.

So what you are saying is that David was a child (14) in TWOK but with the body of a man.
David did seem a little childish at times but this theory seems a little far-fetched.

I still enjoyed the Holiest Thing, but it would seem that you guys made a mistake and by the time you realized it, it was too late to change the story :vulcan:. As it is not canon it does not really matter. Great fan film nonetheless. :techman:

14-16 in real years and about 22-25 in appearance. It is not as far-fetched as Spock being reborn and growing up to be a fully grown older man within a a matter of days, or what Wesley Crusher is able and allowed to do at the age of 15 in TNG. This is sci-fi and Star Trek - a series full of far-fetched happenings.

Sorry, but setting the Kirk/Carol affair during/post-TOS can't be reconciled with the adult Dr. Marcus seen in TWOK.

I read the explanations given on the New Voyages website. First off, I take my hat off that you put the thought into fleshing out the explanations or rejoinders to some of the questions raised about "The Holiest Thing". That being said, I find them hard to accept. If David was rapidly growing like that it seems it would have been enough of a cause of concern that Dr. Marcus would at some point told Kirk about it. Also why would Starfleet go along with altering David's age? And did his mental abilities grow as rapidly as his age? Why was he credentialed to be on the Genesis project if he was a teenager in an adult's body?

Good point about mentioning the Ferengi in "Little Green Men". I haven't seen that episode in a long time. Did the Ferengi ever tell the humans what their species's name was? Granted I can accept that some people on Earth and later in Starfleet knew more about the Ferengi than the average person or Starfleet officer and kept it secret, but why? It's not like it would cause the potential fallout of revealing that the Romulans and Vulcans are from the same species.
