I caught up with the latest two episodes. I thought they were enjoyable, and in keeping with the quality of the previous later Reborn episodes for the most part, because I think it started off good and started dragging. I like how everything is now coming down to a big finale. I liked "Company Woman", I did feel that it made Erica more sympathetic. I can agree though that the episode should've come way sooner or they should've weaved it into other episodes. Also with the episode's title I was expecting her to have worked at Primatech. I wish they had spaced out her backstory more throughout Reborn so we could've seen more of her relationship with Primatech and HRG.
The Katana Girl stuff has never really worked for me and still doesn't. I can understand her final fight with Harris Prime, who was her personal nemesis, though where he got the big silver ax from, I have no clue. Also why he just didn't have his clones shoot Katana Girl. I can understand why Harris is KG's personal nemesis, but not why Harris Prime would spend the time fighting her? It sucked seeing him taken out, I thought he was a good henchman, but I get that hey, the show is almost over and time to start wrapping things up.
Malina has a little bit more personality-well maybe not, but she speaks more, so I guess that's something. Still I find her boring. When compared to Claire who was a likable kind of protagonist to root for. Tommy fares a little better, then again they grounded Tommy in a normal setting and had Malina off at the North Pole or whatever. I think more could've been done for the final confrontation between Luke and Joanne.
I mean if they were going to have him incinerate her why not do that before she shot at Malina? It seemed a bit excessive to do it after Malina was down. If he wanted to take her out, burn her gun hand? And why didn't Erica send a team with Joanne? One thing that bothered me throughout the show is how Luke and Joanne were these bad asses, hunting and successfully killing Evos without apparently any training. They didn't go into Joanne's backstory and from what I recall Luke was a doctor. Why would Erica entrust Joanne with such an important mission?
I was surprised that they went the way with Parkman, turning him into a full villain. Though I'm okay with it. Not everyone is going to turn out to be a hero and perhaps not everyone can be redeemed or wants to be. In his mind he thought he was doing it for the right reasons anyway. And maybe a last second change of mind-though expected-might have been too trite.
I just thought about it but the last two episodes didn't have HRG in them and went along just fine. He definitely adds weight to the story and remains a cool character to watch but the show continued along with him. I'm sure he'll return in time for the big finish.
For the finale I wonder what role, if any, El Vengador will play? (I really like the name and the costume). Was his mission just to get people to Odessa? I wouldn't mind seeing an El Vengador spin off. Maybe a Netflix or webseries. There are El Vengador tie-in comics. I think the character as potential as a street-level vigilante with relatively inexpensive special effects. I mean bring the occasional Evo onto the show, but if they did it like the early season (s) of Arrow or Daredevil or Jessica Jones then it might be neat.
Overall I've felt this group of Reborn heroes was an odd mix, then again, perhaps its always been that way with the collection of heroes assembled to take out the big thing every season on the show. I wonder how much thought-if any-went into having people with specific powers that work together to solve the big problem every finale?
Also, I hadn't thought about it until Morpheus 2 said it, but yeah, the guy playing Micah would fit right in on The CW. I wish we had gotten a bit more of Micah in the series. It seems his powers have grown. Also perhaps having his cousin St. Joan show up would've been neat as well.
