Marvel All New, All Different - Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Did they every explain why they call her The Mighty Thor and not The Mighty Jane?

 

No one knows that Jane is Thor.

Hells, we didn't find out about who she really was until the last three pages of he last issue of the previous volume.

This week, she met Loki for the first time, I was hoping they were going to make out.

I thought that they were going to make out a little.

One of Jane's thought bubble: '"The first time I met this a-hole, he tied me up and tried to feed me to tigers."

 

Yeah, but Thunderstrike and Beta Ray Bill didn't steal thor's name, and make Thor call himself "Odinson". It wouldn't make sense for Jane to call herself Jane, but it doesn't make any more sense for her to steal someone's birth name like its a title.

I mean, in the end the big problem is that she's a horrible character, if she was a good character I'd personally get past stealing Thor's name. As it is, it makes no sense for Thor to allow her to take his name (the writer pulled the "oh, Thor totally thinks Jane is worthy, so you can't complain anymore" card early in Jane Thor's first run, and it was so out of character for everyone it was hilarious), but we're still at the point that we still don't know how Nick Fury made the real Thor "unworthy", so everything about Jane Foster as "Thor" is a gigantic clusterf**k that will probably not be resolved until Thor: Ragnarok comes out in theaters and Marvel Comics probably has to bring back the real Thor.

 

I know Guy didn't like it but did anyone else read Scarlet Witch #1?

I liked it. I thought Robinson did a good job with three things.
1-Set up, where she is, whose around her
2-It told like a one & done story
3-While at the same time establishing that Wanda was going to find out who un-leashed the Sonnellian curse/hex

I have #2 in my too read pile, anyone read that yet?

 

Honestly? That's still better then stealing Thor's name and then having the writer try to BS the real Thor as being fine with it. I'm betting the real Thor eventually showed up and confronted Masterson and they sorted all that out. I'm not as familiar with Thunderstrike as I'd like to be, but for most of his existence he was Thunderstrike, and he seemed like an interesting character. Jane Foster was a bland, boring character as a love interest and she's worse as the woman who stole Thor's hammer and name (and she's not helped by having a horrible writer on her book). Easily the second worst "replacement" hero in Marvel history over Inferior Spider-Man, and the real Thor can't come back soon enough.

Read it, hated the art and found the story to be up (or is that down) to Robinson's usually horrible standards. Robinson hasn't been a good writer since Star Man ended (his New 52 Earth 2 run being the best he's done in a decade, and even then it was just "ok"), and this was definitely a standard bad Robinson comic, at least in my opinion.

 

I didn't read Robinson's 15 issues on All New Invaders so I am a bit removed from him since Starman. I think he did a JLA stint prior to the nu52 launch but didn't read that either. While I agree it's not as tight as I remember Starman being I felt it was a solid opening issue on a character that, like Starman, isn't frequently seen in a solo status.

So, his Invaders...not good? It's hard to read what 15 issues means in this market place anymore the way Marvel cancels/restarts titles so much.

 

Yeah, Aaron is what got me to stop reading Thor, after JMS made me a big fan. The "three Thors" gimmick was so stupid, again not helped by bad writing, and Aaron beat himself by going from three Thors to zero Thors.

Right now, Walter Simonson is writing the best Thor book available with his Ragnarok series from IDW. It has the benefit of feeling like it could almost be a sequel to his Marvel Thor work, but not in a way he could get sued for. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who liked Simonson's Thor, or Marvel's Thor in general (although it probably wouldn't be a great book to someone completely new to Thor in comics).

Yeah, he did JLA. His JLA run is legitimately, with no hyperbole, the worst run on Justice League I read before the New 52 reboot. It started with Robinson's JLA: Cry for Justice mini that was so messed up and poorly thought out its mind boggling. Then, the actual run was also really bad.

I thought it was kind of like his Earth 2 work, where its some of his only "ok" work in recent years, but to be fair I really like the Invaders as a group and I'm sure that lead to me being kinder to the book. It definitely wasn't terrible, but I wouldn't say it was anything special.

 

Well, I'm pretty sure they know she's not Thor.

When she had the Thor power the first time, back in the 70s, she called herself Thordis.

Right, he was pretending to be Thor, so that nobody would know Thor was "dead" or whatever. I doubt if Jane Foster is trying to pass herself off as Thor. Jim Rhodes never started calling himself Tony.

The April solicitations are out, and it looks like we've had our first cancellation of All New, All Different Marvel. Black Knight wasn't on the list. I'm crushed. I thought it would get at least 12 issues.

They didn't give it a chance. And Hercules is selling worse than BK, yet it's still there.

Proving a negative is hard.

 

Looking at the April solicitations, its annoying that the horrible Spider-Woman book is having an event that interrupts Silk for two months. Silk (both the first volume and its new renumbering) has been surprisingly good, especially considering that I didn't care about her when she appeared in the main Spider-Man book.

As for Black Knight, I read the first issue and didn't care for it. Still, it sucks its apparently getting cancelled for those who liked it. If nothing else, even though I didn't like BK I outright hated Hercules, and it definitely doesn't deserve to keep going over BK.

 

Silk is a fun book. and i despise Spider Woman. Bendis put her on the Avengers and she hasn't went away since.
