At the very least, we may be seeing Indiegogo, etc. all of a sudden changing their Terms of Service.

I'm wondering if Kickstarter and/or Indiegogo could dragged into this miss for allowing fanfilms to fund them to fund their projects. Peters has kicked over a hornet's next of issues.

Yes, this will happen if this goes as far as we think it will.

There is no need for any real major change of terms of service. If I recall correctly, there is already language in each that prohibits users from raising money using IP that does not belong to the user in question. (In this case, Peters using Kickstarter to raise money for his fan film using the Star Trek brand.)

What will change, what needs to change, is Kickstarter and Indiegogo and GoFundMe actually paying attention to and enforcing their terms of service, which they clearly did not do here.

But...sir...Burnett and Peters have set the example. They have been anything but calm. So I refuse to sit silently! This is a MOVEMENT! Who's with me! Hashtaaaaaaag!!!!

Just on a side note: When you're a homeschooler (like my family is), fair use comes up a lot when you're trying to get stuff printed or copied at a big-box copy-and-print center. There's time we can't get even forms we need copied cause the manager on duty is scared of getting an IP violation.

Yet, some buddy can put a kickstarter up, slap Star Trek in the header, and rack in millions. You're telling me fucking Staples and Office Depot workers are better at stopping copyright infringement than freaking kickstarter?

Well I spent the day out exploring Lincoln Cathedral and castle.........glad to see I only had 10 pages to catch up on.:rommie:

Be glad you didn't take a day long break & find a lot more then 10 pages to get up to speed on =P

Hey all, I've spent the afternoon doing some research on "fair use" cases in the Ninth Circuit, and what I've found so far is not exactly encouraging to the Axanar defenders. Here's my full post on the subject.

Great research today and I enjoy the blog......looking forward to watching it grow during all of this. Thanks for your work.

Don't know if this was shared here yet - http://1701news.com/node/980/axanar-will-ruin-fan-trek-everyone.html

Is anyone else seeing Legal Zoom ads in the sidebar? Kinda amusing.

Who the hell is Michael Hinman, and why should I care what he thinks, (even if I happen to agree with him)?

He's the hard-hitting journalist who sixteen years or so ago broke the news that British news presenter Daljit Dhaliwal would be playing "T'Pau" in the new series Enterprise.

About halfway down the page here:

I'm wondering... MST3K raised a ton of money though Kickstarter ( run by the shows creator )

Did Alac see that success & get it in his head to do the same ?

Wouldn't put it past him to think they got millions & millions, I can do that too.

MST3K broke the record for largest crowd funding ever in Kickstarter history.

The MST3K crowdfunding was only in the last month or so. Peters has been doing this thing for years.

Maybe Peters should try crowdfunding a My Little Ponies fanfilm. My Little Pony: Equestanar. I hear Hasbro is totes cool with fan projects.

Hasbro and Allspark Productions are currently making an MLP 2017 feature film (for everyone not in on the reference).

Hasbro? they'd have raided his studio and cuffed him by now.
