CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

I can accept Axanar might not be everyone's cup of tea, and some have zero interest in it.
But it is pretty pathetic by those who seem to revel in what is happening, if they dont like it why revel in what looks like its demise.
Its like some people are acting like Axanar personally offended them

No, but he got some as an Actor per SAG rules that we had to follow. All the producers such as myself were not paid. I do this free. NOBODY on STR gets a salary, We need all the money we can to pay for goods and services strictly related to the production.

When we found out Diana is getting salary for handling fulfillment for 10,000 donors on Axanar. Myself and a a couple others that handle close to that many donors for free, and joke around about getting a raise. LOL
Ah, good, I thought so. I had mentioned that Tim didn't pay himself like Alec did, and I had my fingers crossed that I remembered correctly. Thank you for that information, and yes, if I were you I'd ask for a raise! I'd ask for double what you were making before. ;)

Well, I hear Axanar is now hiring.....oh wait, maybe not ;)

I'd wait on submitting that resume if I were you.

With some of the support Alec is receiving and the way that people are commenting on their boards I still say they should go the religion angle...

They could change their FB header to this.

latest

But then that would violate a whole other IP as well.

All power to the engines...

This ones real is real.

Church of Trek could work, they just can't use the TOS movies font. :P

You can't copyright a font, just a typeface, which is why there are so many free fonts which are basically indistinguishable from copyrighted typefaces. But you can protect a font-logo combination by filing for a Registered Mark of same, which would prevent anyone from using said font in a manner which could create ambiguity as to the provenance of the brand.

Isn't intellectual property law fun?! :)

They took $15.00 from me to make a film.... Since that time their budget has more than doubled, and I was told that my $15.00 wasn't going towards the film but their studio, which is now being touted as a for profit venture.... So I donated $15.00 for a for profit film studio??? Dang right I am offended!

Some people feel like team Axanar got arrogant and endangered a lot of other productions, so "just desserts" and all that.

Personally, and I have realized this, I think my comments have become a little bordering on this. To be frank I'm not so much reveling in what is happening, I actually do feel bad for the fan production community with everything that is happening. True, it's just Axanar at the moment, and there is nothing that says it is going to happen elsewhere, but it is a sad situation.

I have no ill will toward anyone involved in this.

Gotta echo a post a dozen pages back or so. This feels like one of those daytime soap operas.

You hit the nail on the head. I donated and while I'm disappointed I feel CBS are not wrong given the circumstances.

Happy New Year everyone. What a way to begin our 50 year celebrations...
Cheer up! We're getting a (what I hope to be) great Star Trek film this year, and a Star Trek series next year! That's pretty good, I say. :)

New series Next Year!

I like those words :bolian:

I think most people are sad on some level, because it was a promising project. But Peters and Burnett are making it difficult for people who weren't already drinking the Axan-aid to feel any sympathy for them. At the same time, they are making it super easy for people to laugh at their odd reactions to the situation.

Honestly, I watched "Prelude" thought it was pretty good, Then when I visited the Kickstarter page back in 2014, I dunno, something didn't feel right, something about the wording and the promises being made. I thought for sure this was going to turn out to be a scam of some sort.

I was wrong, it was more this guys ego really....noticed on the twitter feed Tony Todd isn't involved with Axanar any more....I doubt this film will proceed any further, part of me still thinks the Axanar creator is booking a flight to Thailand carrying a bag with dollar bills falling out of it....

Really though, the way they pitched the film as something that would be a competitor to anything CBS/Para releases and also using "not for profit" money to make a "profit" business with Star Trek Symbolage (Is that a word?) all over it, I mean that's just bad. Plus, I don't think they talked to CBS, despite what the sight claims.

maybe the new Trek show is going to be exploring this part of Treks history? (Federation/Klingon war) as a prequel to the JJ movies, so Axanar had to go? (abit like that guy who had the Star Trek Beyond site so was invited to pitch his ideas in exchange for the website address)

and CBS chose this way to kill it off quick as it was too far with all the $'s, talent etc..

I'm pretty sure everyone knows about your $15 donation by now. I'll give you 15 bucks to never mention it again.

I only reference the amount, continuously, because as a donor, I want to be upfront..... Basically I called Axanar out on all this stuff on FB, and Terry, said by our records you only donated 15.... Thinking he would shame me into silence.... So now I wear my $15.00 like an ares patch on my sleve

Your 15 bucks is the price of a ticket to see Trek Beyond, so not only have you got no Axanar youve also been robbed of a ticket to see REAL Star Trek (the 50th anniversary movie at that)

That’s nice. I donated $25, which I know is small, but at the time it was a lot of money for me. I thought they valued all donors. :cardie:

From a professional standpoint, all donations (no matter the amount) should be valued. Granted different amounts get different awards, but no one should feel like their contribution is less because of the amount they contributed; we don't know the circumstances of everyone.
