I wonder if she's stolen his TARDIS in all his incarnations? Aside from maybe his UNIT days when the TARDIS was having issues due to him messing with it without any knowledge of how it worked. Though she still might have stolen it from UNIT, since she does know how it works...mostly. Getting into UNIT might have been the tricky part.

If the Doctor didn't know fully how it worked when at UNIT where did he suddenly gain the knowledge he seems to have in later regenerations?

It was taken from him by the Timelords when he was exiled and then returned later when he completed a mission for them - someone will be along shortly to confirm which story he gets it back in.

The Three Doctors is where his exisle ended.

Just dress like a 1970s secretary, and the UNIT guys never would have noticed the difference. Her biggest worry would have been running into Liz Shaw.

That's when the Time Lords lifted his memory block so he could operate the TARDIS... but it doesn't mean he suddenly became good at it.

By my recollection, it was at least the Sixth or Seventh Doctor who first had any kind of reliable precision control over the TARDIS and was able to land it exactly when and where he intended. We know the Fifth Doctor was hopeless at getting Tegan back to Heathrow in the correct century...

At some point, maybe someone just gave him a copy of TARDISes For Dummies and that's how he learned to operate it.

He threw that book away as soon as Romana mentioned it.

The Sixth Doctor's ego would compel him to learn how to do it,...more or less, right. He still doesn't know how everything works or what all the buttons do at the 12th Doctor.

I love this idea! Maybe BF can make a slight connection between season 2 of River's Diary and one of Doctors 5-7 stories, where the TARDIS does go off missing for one crucial moment that leads to the adventure of the thing, only to be uncovered by River later on that she had taken the TARDIS to go off someplace or whatnot and then return it to its place.

I finally got a chance to see the show last night and I really liked it. Capaldi & Kingston have great chemistry together- his reactions to her describing their relationship and how she dealt with her various husbands was priceless.

Not a perfect episode- they should have used something other than the Trap Street set which we had just seen.

I did like how the Doctor jumped the TARDIS ahead a few clicks to put the fires out from the wreckage and created the restaurant he always promised to take her to.

Not much Christmas aside from the time things take place but all in all an enjoyable show.

I personally really enjoyed this episode, especially the scene where River finally realizes who she's with. It's a pity this really is the last episode we'll see of her (since from her perspective this was the last "night" with the doctor, she only knew of the original faces, and this was her first and only encounter with Capaldi), as I think she was a great character.

I find it interesting that most people on the Internet always seem to have the exact opposite view of most of the Doctor Who episodes that I do. When they hate it, I love it. When I love it, they hate it. It's quite amusing. I mean, the fact that both Rose and Donna are two of the more beloved companions from nuWho is just... wow to me.

Very good. I enjoyed but ended up having a bit of a cry at the end.

I was in hospital on Christmas Eve getting another cancer check. This one was all clear thankfully (my last one wasn't) but I was left with no emotional defence for the end of the episode.

If this was River's last episode I think it was better than Clara's.

I'm glad you got an all-clear and hope it continues. :techman:

Honestly, I've gotten so used to Doctor Who breaking my heart that I wasn't really prepared for a happy ending.

Maybe River got Liz with the hallucinogenic lipstick ;)

If River died in the Library why does she have a grave on Trenzalore?
That was a false grave concealing a secret entrance to the Doctor's tomb, and the fact that it shouldn't have been there was the tip-off that that's what it was.

So put it there in the first place? The Doctor was already dead, so the only person who could've put it there and who knew the connection the two of them was River.

There's a lot of things we don't know about the time period between Capaldi's Doctor and the Doctor's ultimate demise.

Excluding the War Doctor there were only 11 Doctors in the Doctor's timestream, for whatever reasons that means Smith's Doctor was last one. It doesn't make sense but there you go.

^ Maybe Clara and the Great Intelligence just ran out of splinters before they got to Capaldi.

Well, it would make no less sense than the rest of the plot, anyway.

Any time traveler who knew the significance of it being there is the obvious answer. And probably was the Doctor himself; he's had literally hundreds of years of solo journeys that we're not privy to in just the last couple of series.
