The Mighty Chewbacca - The Force Awakens (Spoilers)

I think they addressed that in one of the expanded stories. Leia gave it to him after the official ceremony because she needed to stand on a chair. Then in the ESB radio production, Han says something about how he and Chewie were considering hocking their Hero Medals, so he appears to have received one. Who knows, maybe it just wasn't big enough to fit around his hairy neck.

Leia felt through the force when Han died, and when Han didn't step off the ship and Rey looked at her that way it confirmed it. She could have intuited the way he died just because it's what they talked about before he went.

I hated that scene and nearly walked out of the movie as a result. Chewie had been Han's partner for 34+ years. he owed a life debt to Han. And when the Falcon lands Chewie is off celebrating with the Resistance while Rey who Leia just met is the one comforting Leia. It was a completely unrealistic scene, destroyed the character of Chewie, and was forced in to shove a connection between Leia and Rey down our throats.

Almost walked out, really? Maybe the life-debt was repaid in the intervening time, that being over 30 years.

He still feels the sting of that, walking carpet zinger.

And the fact that he didn't get a medal at the end of ANH. I still think that was messed up. He risked his life just as much as Han and Luke.

Chewbacca: "Ain't this some BS!"
For that matter, why didn't Wedge and that surviving Y-wing pilot get medals, too? Guess you only rate if you're a human and a main character. :p

Because, you know, Wookies can't kneel or anything.

The rebels were a low budget affair, so only the team captains got the medals. Poor Artoo didn't get a medal, either.

The life debt stuff is bunk, since it was jettisoned right along with the rest of the bloated Expanded Universe.

Kor

It's bunk for now, but I won't be surprised if it comes back into canon in the Han Solo spinoff movie.

... In the film I was wondering for a moment if Chewbacca would just go nuts after the climatic scene with Han and would go out in a blaze of glory.

Same here. I'm glad at least Chewie live.

I love that he took a shot that connected at Kylo. That was a great moment. He smoked the next few stormies he came upon too.

I loved that scene too as well as Chewbacca's battle cry before it.

Life debt is still canon.

Also there's supposed to be another Aftermath book. Aftermath: Life Debt. Don't know if it's going to be about Chewbacca/Han or what.

Sure, the concept of a life debt is still canon, because of its inclusion in TPM ( and, apparently, Rebels ). But is it still canon that there was a life debt between Han and Chewbacca? That's the question.

According to Wookieepedia the life debt between Han and Chewbacca still exists.

Chewie stomps off the ship through the crowd, I don't remember seeing him cheer or buddy up to anyone.

IIRC, he is carrying Finn, who needed immediate medical attention.

I would have liked chewie to grieve more but IMO he got over it real fast

Now he's got Rey as a new copilot and he seems pretty happy
