cause I know they couldn't get Alice Eve to reprise her role as Carol
If they really wanted to use Carol Marcus again, they would have recast the part...
get Rosamond Pike, no one would notice any difference

Man up.If I was a betting man, I'd put my money on Beyond tanking badly.

So... are they ignoring that particular line of story and character development from ST:ID?
Is this going to be like "Skyfall" was to "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace?" I'm not saying that's a bad or good thing, just noticeably different.

If I was a betting man, I'd put my money on Beyond tanking badly. It probably won't do as badly as Nemesis, but it'll be lucky to get to $350m IMO, and if the budget is the best part of $200m, that will be bad news.
And yet, the film widely considered to be the best all-time is also that (adjusted) highest earning. This film will be profitable but less profitable than the other two and that's cool because films that are a "hit at the box office" (blah, blah, blah) are typically ho-hum given that we live in an era of quick thrills cinema.

Given your fondness for broad generationalisations, I'll take your word for it.And yet, the film widely considered to be the best all-time is also that (adjusted) highest earning. This film will be profitable but less profitable than the other two and that's cool because films that are a "hit at the box office" (blah, blah, blah) are typically ho-hum given that we live in an era of quick thrills cinema.
But, yeah, broad generalizations are pretty awesome.
The video is a broken link for me, but if it was supposed to be Pauly Shore, I'll never forgive you.
