The First Trailer

Looks like the Swarm is running a planetary concentration camp. Drawing in ships then swiss-cheesing them, capturing the crew for manual labour.

To boldly go...

They're also playing up the Star Wars nostalgia.

Whilst Star Trek seems to be alienating a decent chunk of it's fanbase by downplaying its heritage...

Who needs them. It's not like they'll be missed.

The only alienation I see is from a few very loud people on the internet.

Yeesh. I'm not appalled, but I'm far from encouraged. Give Star Trek back to the nerds, Paramount.

No.

I've gotten more entertainment, between watching and discussing, from an 84-second trailer than I did from much of the Berman years.

My first reaction: this is not Star Trek.

It didn't give me any Star Trek feeling at all and that for a franchise that celebrates its 50th anniversary next year.

I'm not a big Star Wars fan, but the trailer for The Force Awakens left me wanting for more and left me with feelings of nostalgia.

The trailer for Star Trek Beyond left me feeling empty.

One or two good things: Karl Urban of course and it seems earth finally isn't in danger.

The rest, meh. Anyone claiming this trailer feels like TOS should have their heads examined.

And I'm all for change btw. Star Trek Beyond shouldn't be The Voyage Home or First Contact, but should feel like Star Trek and it really doesn't.

I felt the exact opposite. I felt the SW:Awakens trailers were desperate to erase the memories of the prequels, and they filled the trailer with images of familiar ships from the first trilogy, but I didn't get as much reaction from it as I did watching McCoy, Scotty, and Kirk in this trailer.

Sorry if this sounds cruel, but oh well! Maybe they'll have more luck with the new TV series. Maybe not. But if both are successful under the auspice of the new action adventure direction (which really isn't at all new), the old fanbase becomes irrelevant.

It's not that few.

The like/dislike ratio on the trailer says 1 in 3 people don't like the trailer.

Even the recent Batman vs Superman trailer which was also very loudly panned has less than 1 in 10 dislikes.

The swarm is like...a swarm of insects that seem to overwhelm their enemy.

Huh, in the trailer I thought this was a Swarm thing crashing through Enterprise, but this looks like it has a Starfleet arrowhead and English letter "S" on it.

What bothers me in the teaser is the Scotty's jump scene which looks really cheap even for the Fast And Furious type of film.

Otherwise it's an OK teaser (the ending is pretty lame though).
