Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

I saw the trailer once. I liked the look of it. No idea what anyone said, and I'm fine with that. I have a warm fuzzy feeling, but that could also be my bronchitis. :)

I just hope it's more thoughtful and topical than the J. J. films.

Into Darkness was pretty damned topical for anyone that was actually paying attention.

Indeed it was. Into Darkness is built around the conflict between the optimistic Roddenberry ethos of the 1960s (embodied by Kirk) and the moral compromises of the War on Terror and asymmetric warfare (embodied by Robocop), with Khan as the wild card in the middle. It goes off the rails in the third act, imho, but the track was built on some solid and interesting philosophical ground.

Questions concerning the trailer...

at 0:24 Is that wreckage of the Enterprise's saucer?
at 0:27 Is that a Photon Torpedo Scotty jumps out of?
0:43 Is that Chekov on the motorbike?
0:58 Idris Elba?
0:59 which yellow shirt is that? Sulu, kirk?

1. Yes ist is. Moments before that sequence you can see Kirk leaving the bridge via life boat. The damaged bridge is clearly visible through its window. The saucer is also shown from inside Kirks life boat.
2. Seems like there are smaller life boats that are based on the Photon Torpedo design.
3. No, its Kirk. you can clearly see the googles hes wearing later in the scene with Sofia Boutella. Also check his hair, its Kirk´s hairdo.
4. Don´t know.
5.Looks like Kirk. The guy sent flying has brown hair, Sulu´s is black.

5. Now if it is Kirk, why does he wear a yellow shirt? I mean he clearly switches from yellow to his blue Spacecowboy suit after the escape pod scene. Would that mean the villains board the Enterprise at the beginning? Before destroying her? Unlikely. That would mean he somehow gets a new uniform? --> After being rescued from Starfleet? Or is the Enterprise not destroyed? Or repaired. With Khan's magical superblood.

Into Darkness was pretty damned topical for anyone that was actually paying attention.

Few people who complained actually were paying attention. To neither of the last two films. And Nemesis.

That's just a childish attitude.

"They don't like what I like so they're stupid."

It's not about how thoughtful or topical they were. Into Darkness just had sloppy, nonsensical, bad writing, simple as. A movie can be as deep and reflective as you want, but if it has bad writing, it doesn't matter.

Anyway, I really don't want this argument. Let's get back to Beyond and the trailer...

You're right. The last third or fourth of Into Darkness was bad writing in my opinion. But that was not part of any comment above. It was only about being 'topical', not whether you like the movie or do not like it at all.
That being said I know people who did not understand that there was any time travel involved in Star Trek 09 - but they constantly complained how nothing made sense. Perceptual disorder and attention deficit paired with 'not an ounce of humility' really is one of the biggest problems of Western Civilization.

So, now I really don't want this argument any more. Again, we agree.

i managed to see 15 seconds of it. Not bad but not enough to get a great view. Where are the slackers who downloaded this thing?

Your last question.

When he is leaving the Enterprise with the Life Boat you can see the normal yellow shirt beeing reflected by the window. When he is leaving his life boat on the planet, he wears the jacket.

After his rescue of Sofia Boutella´s character, you can see that he wears the normal dark undershirt under his jacket. When he is lying on the transporter platform (?) the undershirt is visible through his open collar.

Then they shoved it down your throat and beat your head in with it.

Exactly - in the best tradition of classic Star Trek, which never did otherwise.

Loved the trailer!

honestly the trailer looks like stid to me. They seem to replicate some of the stuff that had happened (or almost happened) in the other movie and the tone is similar.

and btw, Uhura seems to be the only one who still looks pretty with the new uniform, LOL
though, I like Pine's new jacket

There it is! Watching it next

OK, obviously it's a teaser trailer and short, but it looks like exactly what everyone wanted..a new adventure set out on the wild frontier.

That was awesome.

I'm correct in remembering the tune as the same from Kirk's joyride in the '09 flick, right?

Looks like a fun ride. Count me in! :techman:

(Thanks for the link, Dennis.)

^^ Funny how you can go from almost complete control (writer\director) to being completely in the dark.

just a correction about Orci: I went to the page again and apparently he was misunderstood (as usual). He said he did read the story and script of star trek beyond, his comment was about star wars.
also some people (I have to check the trailer again) noticed he is credited as co-writer in the trailer (maybe they used some of his ideas?)

It resembles too much to the spirit of "Into darkness" and Marvel movies.... To me, it isn´t a good signal...

God, I bet Paramount is praying that people 'see' the same Marvel-style 'spirit' that put all those butts into seats.

It definitely looks intense and fun. Very much a thrill ride. I'm kinda over "Sabotage" re: Star Trek though. Ready to see an HQ version Thursday in English! :)

Pegg was on Jonathon Ross the other night (uk) but aside confirming the title, the fact it will be set in space during the 5y mission, and that Elba was the villain there was no new info :(

From what I gather in that trailer, that five year mission looks to have been cut short.
