Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

Are they fighting Stargate's Unas? That (pretty generic) make-up design was the only thing I did'nt like here. The rest: Most awesome.

Into Darkness was pretty damned topical for anyone that was actually paying attention.

Few people who complained actually were paying attention. To neither of the last two films. And Nemesis.

That's just a childish attitude.

"They don't like what I like so they're stupid."

Sorry, but you're mistaken.

People who claim that there was nothing topical or substantial about the script for STID either weren't paying attention, didn't understand what they were watching, or are complaining for the sake of complaining - because they're making an assertion that's wrong on the facts.

also some people (I have to check the trailer again) noticed he is credited as co-writer in the trailer (maybe they used some of his ideas?)

Not necessarily. It's all in how the Writer's Guild determines credit. Since Orci wrote an early script for the production, and the film is the fruit of the production, he may have earned a credit even though nothing he wrote is in the film. In the original film series, Khan, Voyage Home, and Undiscovered Country credit writers that didn't write anything that made it to screen.

Some of the worst movies are "about something topical". That doesn't mean anything. The trailer looks mundane albeit I don't speak German. I assume it'll be another load of slap bang FX driven lesson in lazy writing in the vein of the previous two films.

OK, obviously it's a teaser trailer and short, but it looks like exactly what everyone wanted..a new adventure set out on the wild frontier.

Generally speaking, the WGA arbitration process involves the submission of all scripts and treatments for a project for review by a panel of writers who judge to what extent the final script is made up from the various drafts.

It's unlikely that Orci would receive screenplay credit if the final draft didn't contain material from his script. He might receive "story by" credit if the premise is traceable to his versions.

In the case of TWOK, Bennett and Sowards both received story credits. Peeples went uncredited and Meyer evidently didn't pursue a screenplay credit for compiling and building on the several previous script drafts. Sowards received a sole screenplay credit.

It's entirely possible, though, that the script hasn't been to arbitration and that these writing credits aren't final.

Well if we get the Writer's Guild nomination like the first one, the critical acclaim and the high audience ratings of the last 2 I think we'll be just fine.

I was looking for this trailer when I caught a clip of STV(1989) . Remember when Paramount didn't care enough to give Trek a budget and make it look like a MOVIE? How times have changed.

Obligatory Enterprise Nacelle Dome Post:

The effect is brighter and more energetic in these shots than in previous nuTrek films.

The colors of the new uniforms have moved closer to those of the original TV series, away from the more saturated primary colors of the previous films as well.

Soooo...they're following the formula again:

1) World threatening super villian
2) Khaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
3) Destroy the 1701

But given how compressed these writers write (2 & 3 combined in STID), I'd say well end STB with the launch of the 1701—or 1702 is they think they're being witty.

A nomination isn't that difficult depending on the competition on that given year and mass audiences like as much thrash as they do quality. Talent shows and soaps being a firm example of the former.

I suppose if they actual write something rather than blow up planets and lazily shove in the mangled wreckage of some of the original films, we might get an improvement.

Well considering no Star Trek movie ever got one it isn't easy for Star Trek to get one. ;)

The trailer looks like TOS ... with a big-budget. After all, the original was first and foremost an action-adventure series, with a layer of social commentary added on top of that.

Of course, spoilers, darling.

Whoa, are you Huelen on there? I'm JeffZero.

Nope. But glad to meet ya! :)

I just hope it's more thoughtful and topical than the J. J. films.

Into Darkness was pretty damned topical for anyone that was actually paying attention.

Indeed it was. Into Darkness is built around the conflict between the optimistic Roddenberry ethos of the 1960s (embodied by Kirk) and the moral compromises of the War on Terror and asymmetric warfare (embodied by Robocop), with Khan as the wild card in the middle. It goes off the rails in the third act, imho, but the track was built on some solid and interesting philosophical ground.

Yep.

Looks fine. I think the content is interesting and the wit and humor are there, but the trailer itself is a bit too rough-cut. It's going to rub some folks the wrong way. Looks fine, though.

So, at a guess this "Swarm" has a nice method for bringing down big spaceships. The Dubai city shots we've seen are from early in the movie when an older Starfleet ship manages a crash landing at a starbase. Later, the Enterprise is critically damaged and most of the crew held under guard by Swarm soldiers while the stars avoid capture and run around the landscape figuring out how to stop Elba's nefarious plot and free their people.
