Wow, thank goodness there's another episode next week. I don't think I could handle the wait if that was the midseason finale and we had to wait all the way until March to find out what happens next.
What an episode! When they killed off Rosalind in the first few minutes, you knew this wasn't going to be a boring one. Such badassery from Coulson. He took down all those thugs. I was sitting there thinking "go figure, Banks lasted longer than Price, I wonder how long this'll last?" As you'd expect, he was gone pretty shortly thereafter.
So I wonder where they're going with the Mack angle. He's in charge while Coulson is offworld? Surely everyone will come home next episode, right? They're not going to leave Fitz, Coulson, Ward, and even Will and everyone else on that planet for half the season, are they?
I will say this though, as much as I enjoyed this episode, skydiving straight through the portal was a bit much.
You gotta like the old writer's trick of waiting until just the moment when we finally like Price and Banks, before offing them for maximum effect.
As for Fitz and Simmons, the idea of threatening one to get the other to help you is so incredibly obvious that I think every single one of us here in internetland had already thought of it ourselves.
Hmm, it occured to me, thinking of the old plans for the Marvels Most Wanted show, they could have spun that off right around here if they'd wanted to, with Bobbi and Hunter doing all sorts of off-the-books stuff while chasing Ward, and perhaps getting temporarily kicked out of Shield for a while thanks to it. Or maybe just doing all sorts of off the books stuff. But now I'm thinking of the Mack angle again, and I'm wondering if perhaps he'll stay in charge when Coulson gets back. Maybe Coulson will be seen (or will see himself) as temporarily unworthy of being Director. That beginning tonight sure played up the fact that he can bring more to the table than just being Director. Heck, his skydiving skills alone...

Have to admit, killing off Rosalind two minutes into the episode was a bit of a shocker. For a few seconds there I actually thought they were doing a dream sequence. Now that I've had a little time to digest it and that they also killed off Banks, I can't help but feel this smacks of "we have no idea what to do with these characters now, so let's just dispose of them."
I liked how shockingly sane Ward's little brother turned out to be, despite being the "real" victim of his family--not having anyone else to pass the abuse onto. Grant's excuses and rationalisations are sounding more and more hollow. Of course he'd probably say that the only reason Thomas remains innocent is because he did the nasty things necessary to protect him.
I may actually be changing my opinion that Ward's character is played out and needs to die. They my be on the cusp of giving the character a new direction...and it may have something to do with that thing on the other side of the portal...
Interesting that Malick characterised Pierce as "bloodthirsty". I mean he's not wrong--the man straight-up murdered his housekeeper like it was a minor inconvenience--but the charming and outwardly rational way Redford played him makes you forget he was probably a psychopath. Also implies that Malick was the one that recruited him...so who recruited Malak? He's actually probably old enough to have been recruited by Zola before he got his brain uploaded.

I seem to be saying this on a weekly basis: Kill off Ward. Now. He is irredeemable. And he's overstayed his welcome. Since it's really been a pretty major plot point of the season with both Hunter and Coulson wanting the f*cker dead, I would be more than disappointed if they didn't do that by the season finale (if not next week's midseason finale).

I like that they're going back to Simmons' planet and I wonder how they're going to play this out. What's going to happen with Will? Is he the first inhuman? Or just a pawn? OR are we going to find Simmons still on the planet? And alone. Wouldn't that be something?

Evidently you did miss the whole scene where Coulson appointed Mack as interim director over Mack's objections.
Maybe, but I hope not. This Secret Warriors team is taking forever to get assembled, and I want it to gain more members, not lose one of the three so far.
Something disturbing has just occurred to me. This episode did not serve its female characters at all well. Roz was out-and-out fridged in the most cliched way possible, killed by a male villain to enrage a male hero. Simmons was tortured to motivate another male hero. Bobbi had good advice that the men around her totally ignored in their gung-ho macho revenge fest. And Daisy and May were pretty much sidelined. The show's usually better at gender balance than this, so I can forgive it, but it had better be a one-time thing. And it's a lousy ending for Roz's arc.
Yeah, I should know better than to watch shows when I can't sleep. Pretty sure I fell asleep for a few minutes. Guess I'll have to go back and watch that little bit.
Interesting how my take away is different.
The show has demonstrated from the start it's willing to put characters in place to move the drama, the story and the motives along. Then, if necessary kill them off for effect.

I see it as a pattern, not as a weakness that they don't know what they are doing. Quite the opposite, the deaths are there as motivation for our characters, to alter their way of thinking or challenge it.

Actually I don't think we've seen him use his powers on anything other than metal objects. I get the impression he's a metalbender, as it were. (A metallokinetic?)
Why would he be a SHIELD agent? We first saw him working for Malick. And he was given powers by the experiments Malick was secretly conducting in the ATCU. That organization, not SHIELD, is the current Hydra front.
Only if he's limited to controlling iron and steel.
Well, there's plenty of precedent for ferrokinesis in the MU proper. Even if it's mostly on the X-Men side.

I was kind of surprised by that too. The way she was screaming I was expecting her to be in a lot worse shape.
That was a great episode. After Flash and then this, I think I almost overdosed on awesomeness last night.
Just a few weeks ago, if you had told me that I would be sad to see Rosalind Price and Banks die, I wouldn't have believed you, but they did and I am. I was starting to really like the Roz/Coulson relationship, so I'm sad to see that end.
It was nice to finally meet Ward's younger brother.
I haven't been bothered by the new origin for Hydra. I know they were an ancient group in the comics, so I've been expecting that reveal, but the whole thing with the ancient Inhuman on the planet Simmons was on was a shock.
Coulson was awesome in this one.
I liked him leaving Mack in charge.
I was surprised so many characters ended up on the other side of the portal at the end. It will be interesting to see what happens there.
I thought all that screaming was a recording to manipulate Fitz.
