The alternative is to be at the mercy of the fans, who will loudly despise a show for the slightest lapse in continuity or taste, and who can't agree on anything. :scream:

"Mainstream people" are not the enemy. STAR TREK has never been just for us hardcore Trekkies.

Nor should it be.
that's not what I meant I am kind of a casual Trekkie myself TNG, ENT and New Trek are my Treks but this way is less risky then broadcast not as many mainstream people are needed to be successful IMHO Netflix changed the game of entertainment viewing it does have some competition which is good as a whole keeping prices down

Sorry. Didn't mean to misinterpret you. One does occasionally encounter an "us versus them" mentality in some quarters of fandom, so I guess I jumped to the conclusion that you were beating the same drum. Didn't mean to put words in your mouth.

No problem it happens

And you don't think non-fans won't berate a new show (Star Trek or not) that they don't like?

For the majority of Trek fans, instead of complaining about a new Trek series that they feel has actual problems, they'll simply stop watching.

And you don't think non-fans won't berate a new show (Star Trek or not) that they don't like?

No. They'll just move on as they have no real stake in it beyond the time they've already committed to the episodes they've watched.

No, they won't. They can't come to places like this and complain incessantly if they quit watching.

CBS has grabbed me by the junipers ... If I want to enjoy watching this new Star Trek series, then I've little choice, but to pay any price. Less choice, even, than that. And the worst part about that is CBS knows Trekkies will do it. If any television show was guaranteed to rope in paying customers, Star Trek is it. We have to have our fix - we need it - and CBS is our only supplier ...

I will not pay for CBS streaming service. I hate buffering. However if it is on itunes I will get the season pass. At the end I will own the episodes.

I don't foresee me adjusting my budget to pay for anymore streaming. Unfortunately it appears that everyone is jumping on the bandwagon to gather their properties so they can stream them on their own system. This will eventually break the streaming services as there will be too many for anyone to afford.

Hopefully, after the dust settles, a few services will survive and collect the remnants and we can purchase just one or two services which fill our needs.

Optimistic, aren't I...

I have spent thousands of dollars on Star trek VHS tapes and DVD's in my life time. But I will NEVER pay 6 bucks to watch new episodes on the infranet! NEVER!

I just don't understand? I'm sure most of the people here have spent a literal shit ton of cash on Star Trek, but six bucks a month is just too much?

So is this CBS thing avalible in the UK, or will i just have to wait for the box set.
CBS/Paramount-the studio, will sell the new show to outlets beyond the borders of it's own US based All Access streaming service. Those living outside the US, things will work the same as they have before with the other shows, you'll turn to whoever buys it in your country, and watch it there. Perhaps a streaming service or cable/satellite company pay per view in your country if a local TV network doesn't pick it up. CBS will definitely not NOT make it available thru iTunes and other ppv services. They need/want as much profit as they can get out of this, you know, to pay for making it in the first place.

No, mainly because I'm not in the US. We'll see how they handle international distribution.

I won't pay for access to CBS as I ready pay for Netflix and Prime. I will buy the Blu-ray box set when it comes out and/or catch it when it appears on Netflix.

For me, it all depends on how the pilot looks like in order for me to pay for the service or not. If it's not different from what I've seen before and the same people from Rick Berman productions creep in, I won't bother.

I've gotten to the point where I don't mind paying a reasonable price for the specific shows I want. It's still cheaper than cable. I can watch at my own convenience. And my money is 100% going towards and effectively voting for the shows and content that I enjoy. It's certainly better than paying $100+ a month for cable or satellite to subsidize 999 channels of openly offensive and stroke inducing drek in order to watch one or two good shows.

If I can purchase it as a season pass on VUDU or Amazon, I will. Otherwise, I'll subscribe to CBS All Access if there's an advertisement-free tier available by then. If neither, then I'll wait until it becomes available on 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray.
