Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Hell, the trailers have thus far been pretty intense.... I'm not surprised, and actually rather grateful that it is PG-13.

Besides, if you think about it, PG-13 is the new PG anyway.

Today's scale:
PG = G
PG-13 = PG

The original Star Trek film had a G rating in 1979 and 1980 and that movie featured two Starfleet officers being turned into bubbling casseroles by a transporter malfunction as they let out horrible screams. The movie rating system has always been a little odd and inconsistent and often reflective of the era in which a particular film was released.

^Wrath of Khan was a 15 certificate for years here, I think it's now been downgraded to a PG.

And I just picked up the new Empire magazine with Rey and BB-8 on the front.

TWOK was downgraded to a "12". There WAS a PG version released on VHS, but that was edited.

I'm disappointed at the (presumably) 12A rating TFA will get in the UK. I wanted to take my two sons (7 and 9) to see it. I'd have a better chance convincing the wife if it had been PG!

Might as well get used to seeing the PG-13 ratings, folks. Every Star Wars movie is probably going to have one for the foreseeable future, because that's the box office sweet spot.

Yeah, it's pretty much what I was expecting. Every movie JJ Abrams has directed so far has been PG-13, so I thought TFA would mostly be too.

The soundtrack listing does suggest a general outline of the film, though, so I'd say it's still spoilery.

Well of course it does, it would be daft if say the track listings had no link to the actually happenings in the film. :p

Eh, if it's a little bit spoilery it's not a big deal for me. The title listings don't spell out any critical plot points or details or reveal who dies in the film, and at this point I imagine most of us know that Maz Kanata plays a major role in the movie and that by the end of the film at least one of the lead characters is on the path to becoming a Jedi.

Even the soundtrack spoiler that Qui-Gon died in Episode I wasn't enough to ruin the emotional impact the first Prequel had when I saw it in the theater. The past three soundtrack albums have gone out of their way to not reveal too much to listeners before they go see the movies for the first time and I don't think that this one's any different.

All of these trailers are cool. Nothing too big gets revealed, just a bit more each time to make you want even more. Is it December yet?
